with my old voyager i could copy from wmp directly to it's card. can the dx use drag/drop from the music folder to the card, as that didn't work with the voyager.

Yes you should be able to drag and drop but I do not believe that Android supports WMA file bur if they are MP3 it will work fine.. The player scans the folders and auto add supported files to the player list..

I always just mount my device as a Mass Storage device and place the music in a My Music folder I created on my sd card drive and then unmount and when I open the player the files shows up after scanning is complete.

I copied over almost 1.5 gigs worth of MP3's to my Droid X. I just use the stock player. It works very well for me.
I just put the phone into USB Mass Storage mode, and copied my MP3's over to the music folder.
