ok, I'm bored and it seems that the same questions are being asked over and over so this thread can hopefully help answer those and reduce the forum clutter.
Where's my update?
Verizon officially started rolling out Android 2.2 (Froyo) on Aug 3rd and were supposed to be finished by Aug 18th. Shortly after initial release, it was promptly halted and no one received an update for almost a week. The update is currently still being pushed out to devices but any completion date is just speculation. The order in which phones receiving the update has not been determined (not done by location, purchase date, etc) so if you have more than one droid and only one has gotten the update, hold tight.
Is the manual update safe?
Yes. This file was pulled directly from the google servers after someone received the initial batch of updates and it is the same FRG08b version as the one currently being pushed out. You can manually update by following the instructions at the following link: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/03/manual-android-2-2-update-for-motorola-droid/ . If you install this update manually, you won't be prompted to install the official OTA version. By installing, you're doing so at your own risk. I'm a fan of Murphy's Law where anything that can go wrong will go wrong. So while unlikely that you're going to break your device, it's always possible. Don't get mad at verizon if something does.
I updated manually but want to go back to 2.1, is this possible?
In short, yes. If you're tech savvy and have a PC, just google "unbricking your droid" and it should point you in the right direction.
What about tethering? Where's my wifi hotspot? I hate verizon.
Hardware wise, the droid can't support a true wifi hotspot where any wifi capable device can connect. Yes, those that have "customized" your device can enable wifi tethering but that creates an ad-hoc network which isn't supported by all wifi capable devices. There is, however, a usb tethering option under Wireless & Network Settings but it isn't free and prompts you to sign up for a moble broadband connect plan. Some people have reported that they've called Verizon to get the tethering add-on and were told that it isn't available. So here I say wtf Verizon? Note that there are apps in the market that allow usb tethering but those type of 3rd party apps are against your TOS and can't be discussed on this forum.
I thought Froyo was supposed to add flash support. Where is it?
Flash isn't "officially" available for the Droid yet. Business customers received a flyer mentioning a secondary update which will enable flash to be downloaded from the market but there's not ETA. If you're impatient or want to get a taste of flash, you can download the latest beta @ http://www.droid-life.com/2010/06/17/download-flash-10-1-beta-3-for-motorola-droid/. Note that this is a beta and MAY have bugs.
I updated to Froyo and now I can't connect to my Exchange server, wtf?
Many people have reported this issue. A possible fix is adding a valid certificate to the Exchange server so check with your IT people to see if they have a certificate and if it's updated. If for some reason it still doesn't work or they don't want to pay for a certificate, I highly recommend Touchdown for Exchange from the market. It's not free but at $19.99 it's a steal and has a 30 day trial.
I keep losing wifi connection after my update.
This is apparently a known issue and seems to happen at random. The device looks like it's connected but won't display a webpage. I'm not aware of a permanent fix but a temporary fix is to disable and re-enable wifi or just wait til it decides it wants to connect again.
Where did the arrow for my app drawer go?
yes, this has been asked more times than I expected. With froyo came an updated launcher with a phone icon, app launcher, and browser icon. To open your app drawer, hit the icon with a bunch of little squares. I'd suggest ditching the stock launcher for ADW launcher or Launcher Pro. Both are available in the market and have free versions.
What happened to my streaming audio quality?
Google modified the framework in Froyo and expected the developers to take note but they haven't so the audio quality for streaming apps like Pandora has been effected. Google has fixed this issue but who knows if/when it'll be available.

Just realized I forgot an important one.
I heard Froyo was supposed to come with Apps2SD. How do I use it?
Go to Settings-Applications-Manage Applications and select the desired app. You will now see a "Move to SD Card" button. Some apps will allow you to move them but the majority of them aren't 100% compatible yet so this option may be grayed out. Don't worry, the feature is definitely there and should become available in most apps as Froyo makes it to more devices.

Don't think so. I'm guessing it'd fail the signature check on the X as it's Droid specific. From what I've seen, Droid X users will need to wait until September to get their update which is kind of silly as the Droid 2 already has a "blur'd" froyo version with essentially the same hardware.

FRG08B is mentioned for the manual update, but it's actually FRG01B, same as the over the air (OTA).

My Droid won't get past the "M" of death. What do I do?
Some have reported success in removing the SD card and then trying to boot. If that doesn't work, there's always the option doing the manual update from the first post. It IS the same version as the OTA (FRG01b-corrected from the first post). You can also try going to a Verizon corporate store and they SHOULD have the resources need to get your device back up and running. It's past Aug 18th, and I still haven't received my update. Where is it?
There still hasn't been an "official" announcement on when the update will be completed. One tip is to uninstall any task killers that you may have. Quite a few people here have reported that uninstalling ATK allowed the update to come through as ATK was likely killing the service that checks for updates.

REFUSE the update and wait for the next build - have to believ they will fix these issues unless they want to spend all their profits on sending customers refurbed units to replace the ones the update is hosing.

Refusing the updates sucks. I love being reminded every 30mins to update my phone and tell it no.

Wasn't 2.2 suppose to fix the hotmail issue? I could have sworn I read somewhere that the update would have hotmail run as smooth on a Droid as it does on a BlackBerry.

Aside from the following on the feature list, I haven't seen/heard anything
Improved Hotmail sync for accounts with a large number of e-mails.
I believe Microsoft is supposed to be working ActiveSync into their hotmail accounts so that should greatly improve functionality but I don't think there's a set time on when they're going to finish.

Yeah This SUCKS!!!!!!
The whole reason for an Android phone is the freedom unlike the apple OS but you know what, with Apple there new OS 4 still works flawless with all old app such as Pandora, Slacker and Last FM.
But none the less, I love Verizon's Service and the Android OS. If the Droid X or Droid 2 work as it should with streaming audio then maybe Verizon and Motorola should hook all us droid users up and give a free upgrade.
OR roll us all back to 2.1 and just change the UI because that's all it needed. 5 home pages, a getter Gmail, Better Camera and Gallery. Thats it. 2.2 didnt need a complete rebuild and if it did it should have been called 3.0.
All im saying is that if I could go back to 2.1 and just have the updated Camera, and Gmail Done. I would be happy, but this 2.2 trashed androids functions by making anything that streams crap.
Come On Guys, lets be the IPhone killers we are and make sure we make improvements not developments

I was looking at Touchdown to solve my Exchange synch problem and found that a) it only has a 5 day trial period and, b) if your active synch isn't working, Touchdown won't either.
Still looking for a solution until VZ/Motorola get this issue fixed.

hmm...the market info on the app says 30 days. Who knows though.
And Froyo shouldn't have broken ActiveSync connection Touchdown uses. If there's an issue, it's probably on the server end.

It is absolutely ridiculous that you have to buy a third party application so that the phone can work!! The Droid X is supposed to be used by business people like me to have access to their work email. You paid 200 bucks for a phone and have to pay for 20.oo bucks for a 3rd party application ? W...... D...... P..... MOTO AND Verizon!!
