activating droid 2 from canada

After having troubles with my Motorola Droid 2 crashing and freezing I used the factory data reset feature (under Menu > Settings > Privacy). Unfortunately, the activation feature cannot complete the necessary 'special call' to activate my phone service. Touching the android to begin brings me to the next screen. The activate and back buttons work PERFECTLY! But as soon as I am taken to the next screen (pressing activate, not back) the phone rings, and I am told the call cannot be completed as dialed. There is nothing else I can do. The phone boots to the same useless screen and there is no apparent way to bypass it. This is incredibly frustrating, as I am stuck with a useless phone and next to no way of contacting your customer support department.

Since the programming of device has to be done on your home network before you visit another area I am not sure if there us any way to actibate the device under your situation.  Have you tried if it would activate across wifi because it needs data to complete process??

You can bypass the activation screen by touching the corners of the android screen starting at the top left and going clockwise.  This is useful for those that don't need Verizon activation and are using the D2G on GSM.  Not sure if that would help in your case as you are presumably using CDMA.

Hi amottier,

As indicated by silver6055 (thanks) Over The Air activation can be bypassed by touching all four corners, corners need to be touched (going clockwise) starting Top-Left / Top-Right / Bottom-Right / Bottom Left. **Ensure not to touch the grey parts of the screen.**

Please keep in mind that this manual programming will only activate your voice and text. Data will not work until you do an Over The Air activation (Dial *228 option 1) within our Nationwide coverage area and access your phone web browser.
