activation question ...

Well , I just received a Droid X from Verizon in the mail and am unable to activate it using the *228 method or the *611 method. I tried numerous times to no avail. Even tried the online method. The *611 and online method asked for a billing password I assumed was the last digits of my ssn though neither would take that.

I am not sure calling customer service would work because on the Droid X the bars always drop off when I attempt anything. Do you use a different phone to call and activate it ? Or should I just take it to a store ?

Strange ...  worked perfectly for me 1st time.  You can ACTIVATE your new phone on the web site also. Maybe go there? or just call Verizon and talk with them directly.  The "Droid X bars dropping off" would be of concern though - are you saying you have NO SIGNAL?

You can definitely take it to the store if you'd like.

Why don't you just plug it in to the wall power then activiate. One of the sheets (receipt?) has the directions for activiation.  Verizon right?

Well since it is not activated yet I think that may be why the signal drops off. It is just a matter of activating it then everything would work perfectly. The web site says the billing password is incorrect or something like that and I assumed it was the last digits of my social though may be it is not in that case I definitely forgot the password.

Yes it is Verizon ...

I think it is just the fact I cannot get passed the billing password which I thought was the last digits of my social though it states it is incorrect. Not sure if it is a glitch or actually a different password.

Thank you everyone ...

My bad, I thought you meant the baterry was dying...lol.

I called 611 when I got my phone and they referred me to online...and the intructions that came in the paperwork.  A couple different options there.  Hope it works out...

The  MY Verizon online requires that you have an online account set up ...  You need to REGISTER first before logging into that site. Have you actually registered?  If you simply forgot your password, just click on that item (Forgot Password) and they'll send it to the email you registered with ...  I don't think there is any "default" password/pin  ..

The billing password is seperate from the last four of your SSN.   At some point in talking with Verizon they asked you if you wanted to have a billing password.  This seems to have happened to a lot of people, where they did not actually realize this was something that would be needed to access the account.

You may need to constactcustomer service, or go into the store.  Tell them you want to reset your billing password or remove it.

Call customer service. They will activate the phone, then you can call *228 to program the phone.

A couple of notes. If you tried activating the phone, and you left a previous phone on, then activation will fail. I know this for a fact, because I screwed up and left my old phone on. I turned it off, but still had to call customer service to activate my Droid X. the process took less than 5 minutes including wait time.

You will not see 3g until you do *228. At least that happened with my X.

There is no default password for your account. If you are asked for one, then you asked to have one put on.

CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE. :smileyvery-happy:
