I am sorry to hear your backup assistant is not working properly on your device. I suggest to follow the directions below to stop the application from running and then follow the instructions to restart the application.
To stop the application:
- From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located at the bottom of the display).
- Touch Settings
- Touch Applications
- Touch running Services
- Touch a service (back up assistant)
- Touch Stop
To restart the application:
- From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located at the bottom of the display).
- Touch backup assistant
- Enter the appropriate PIN then touch Done.
- Touch OK.
If the PIN is incorrectly entered 3 times, the account will be locked for 15 minutes.
Note: When restoring the address book, Backup Assistant compares and merges any contact information on the new device with the stored information on the Backup Assistant website. If there is conflict between the new device and the website, the device data is assumed to be more current and will override the data on the website.
Let me know if this helps!

I have a similar problem. I didn't do the backup assistant for my Droid because I had it backed on on my SD card. I figured I would just import it on the X. I can't seem to find an import process on the X, but I had everything backed up on Google and that restored fine. Is there no import from .vcf?
I am trying to bring Backup Assistant into play now, but the only thing that backs up are the five # numbers for Verizon services that came with the phone.

If you did not run backup assistant on your previous device, then the contacts are not available to restore to your Droid X. You can check your backup assistant online at: https://login.verizonwireless.com/amserver/UI/Login?realm=vzw&goto=https%3A%2F%2Fwbillpay.verizonwir....
Hope this helps!

I had a BB (with Corporate Sync) so there was no way to use BA on that phone. When I first got my Droid X, I noticed it only backed up contacts that were restaurants, stores, etc. I had almost 200 contacts and only around 25 contacts were updated through BA. None of my contacts (especially those with multiple e-mail addresses or multiple phone numbers) were backed up with BA. Is this a bug or a limitation of BA?
Any help would be appreciated. I ended up wiping my device on Sunday (I had only had it a few days so no big problem with reconfiguring it) and not activating BA. My phone contacts still do not have the people that were listed in my Google or my Corprate sync accounts. Very disheartening. I don't want to have to readd contact online in BA. I tried to upload a .cvs file online and I got many errors.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
