I received an update on 11/15/11. As soon as it was installed, I got the low space notification. Now every hour, I get it again. I usually know how to clear it by deleting messages and clearing cashe, but the icon is getting harder to remove.
Another update came 11/16/11 and I am unable to install it because there is low space. Why is this happening and what can I do?
Thank you!

I received 4.06.605.3 the night of 11/14/2011 and all was fine except it broke my voice command, bluetooth and what not all the things the next update fixes. 4.08.605.2 came last night 11/15/2011 but said I didn't have enough room and wouldn't install. Now I'm stuck with a phone that has lots of issues and no way to update it. I called support and they said they could not do anything to help me. This is suck **bleep**! What's the point of having a check for updates function if it doesn't realize I don't have the latest update.
So now what do I do?

I have the same issue with "not enough memory" even though I currently have 491mb available. What am I missing here?

Same Problem Here.
Received 4.06.605.3 yesterday. Install went OK. Had to unmount then mount sd card to get all apps back. Within hours started to get phone storage low warnings. Cleared cache and removed some apps I was not using. Still had error. Rebooted phone had to unmount and remount sd card again because apps missing. Error was gone.
Woke up to the 4.08.605.02 update ready to install. Started the install and received message about not being enough storage space available to install update. Very frustrating. This phone had zero issues before this update.
Phone memory
Total 748 MB
Avail 509 MB
Internal Storage
Total 6.46 GB
Avail 6.33 GB
SD Card
Total 14.89 GB
Avail 11.24 GB
Spoke to support and was told I have plenty of storage and either wait for update to push again or wipe phone and there is a possibility update will push again.
Sorry wiping my phone is unacceptable it worked flawlessly before this update.

I spoke to Tech Support a little bit ago...HTC apparently pulled last night's update (4.08). No amount of master resets or changing your time will work.

Also put a call into HTC. Rep I spoke to said 4.06 was pulled not 4.08. Would be nice if we could get correct info. Did some checking on phone was told I have plenty of space available. Had me perform the checkin procedure which could take up to 7 days to push update again. If it fails again only thing to do is factory reset (UGH!!!!) From what I have been reading this is a HTC issue with not allowing enough space to properly deal with OS requirements. Someone even posted there is no way to fix this with an OTA update. Don't know how true that is.
My biggest frustration is that I have had zero issues with the phone till yesterday.
BTW to perform checkin-from phone app *#*#CHECKIN#*#* without hitting send

The update is still out.
I tried uninstalling every app but nothing would work. it failed to install 3 times with the not enough memory error.
The only thing that fixed it so I could get the 4.08 to install was a factor reset. I pulled out my sd card and did a factory reset from the system menu.
I went through the initial setup and activation of the phone, but didn't add any gmail accounts, etc.
I then used the time trick of moving the date up a month (12/16/2011) and then also did the *#*#checkin#*#* for good measure and after about 10 minutes of waiting it detected the update and showed the popup notice. It downloaded the 8mb file and when I pressed the install button everything went flawless and i'm now running 4.08.605.2
sucks that I had to wipe my phone but alteast the install is done.

I had the same problem. I plugged in to my computer to see what was going on because I knew I had lots of space, and after about 10 minutes the problem resolved itself automagically while I was looking at it and installed. I'm sorry I can't offer any explanation as to why that worked! If you haven't tried it already, plug in and leave it alone for a while and see if that works. Also, my husband had the same update arrive and we made sure his phone was plugged in to install the update and he had no problems.

The reset and update might not work, I spoke to a Data Tech at Verizon and he called HTC when I was on the line, and they told me the 4.08.605.2 update has been pulled, so I am not sure if it is still lingering out there, but you might not be able to get it OTA anymore

I found that if I factory reset my phone it received the update successfully. That low space notification hasnt popped up yet *knock on wood* with all the problems, I wish they would just upgrade our phones for free. The incredible 2 succeeded this, then thunderbolt, and now the htc rezound it supposed to replace that.

I just got off the phone with HTC tech support and this low memory error is now a "known issue".
Allegidly, this upgrade has been pulled and another upgrade is due to be pushed out tonight.

After being the phone with Verizon for almost two hours (and no solution), I was left with impression that unless they get a certain number of tech support calls regarding this problem, they will not look into resolving it. To them it is not a problem - yet.

This is certainly inconvenient, but only marginally. I'll be back to normal is an hour which beats having a buggy phone for days or weeks while Verizon and htc attempt to fix this...

Yeah, the only "Fix" for the not enough space issue when attempting to go to 4.0.8 is to do a factory reset. After a factory reset, 4.0.8 will install just fine. In reality, you SHOULDN'T have to do a factory reset to install a 8MB update...but in this case, thats the only way some can get it to install due to the free space bug in 4.0.6.

To do a factory reset go to Settings -> SD & Phone Storage -> Factory Data Reset (last option on bottom)
Be warned this is unreversable; all apps, contacts, email, text messages; pictures, music, etc will be GONE! Once it's done and the phone restarts it is just like it came fresh out of the box at the store for the 1st time.
I would suggest moving all your apps from SD card back to the phone 1st and removing the SD card before the reset to make sure it's data is safe.
** EDIT **
Extra tip here: Once you get your phone upgrade setup the Android Market but do not download any of your apps. Log into the market website from a PC: https://market.android.com/mylibrary and it will show all the apps you have downloaded previously. You can then from the website click the install button to make your phone automatically download and install the apps again.

No need to do a full factory reset. Follow the instructions here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-droid-incredible/134246-second-gb-update-patch-wont-reboot-...
