can I arrange/display my contact list by their las names?

Unfortunately, no .. not with the stock APP ...  not sure if there is a 3rd party APP out there though.

Actually, yes you can.  You just have to put the last name where the first name goes and then put the first name where the last name goes when entering your contacts. 

I prefer my contacts alphabetized by last name and this is what I found that I had to do. It was kind of a pain, but when I got my 'Droid X I only had about 60 contacts. So whenever I had a free couple minutes I edited a dozen contacts or so.

Thanks Dirk. I have about 600 in my contact. Your suggestion does work as I had seen some of my contacts transferred that way initially. That is not practical and there has to be an app out there to do this via the "brain."

Do a search in the App Market for "Komodo Contact Manager". It looks kinda frilly, but it did mention during names either last name or first name.
I just searched for "contact management" and found that. Not much else popped up, but it's worth another look.

Here is the answer I got back from Motorola support group:
Dear George,
Thanks for reaching out to Motorola. I’ve reviewed your e-mail and I’m ready to help.
Regarding on your concern, the phone contacts are default on FirstName then followed by LastName. You may set it on your google contacts oe set it up manually on your phone then interchange the FirstName to LastName and vice versa. There is no option to sort the contacts tobe LastName first.

Oops, sorry, George is the poster. I was referring to the Moto employee that answered George's inquiry to Moto. The employee is the one that seemed "rarin' to go".
