just ordered today from an actual verizon store in person and said it will be shipped latest 9/7. but my receipt says fedex 2 day shipping but has no order number neither did one get sent to my e-mail. as many people, i want mine asap

Verizon will tell you that the phone will ship on that date, but that is the Ship By date. The phone is very popular and everyone's been having to wait. I think most people are averaging a week before the phone is shipped. Most, but not all. Some get it sooner, some later. Your phone will have two day shipping when it's in stock.
If you ordered in the store, your order number is on the receipt. It is a 6 digit number following the Order Location.
order number like tracking number? can i just go to fedex and put it in?
You probably can once you receive a tracking # but definitely not before that.

My wife and I went to a VZW store to look at Droids yesterday. She liked the D2 I liked the X. Obviously they didn't have the X. We had some shopping to do at Costco. I went by Costco's phone kiosk and low and behold they had both the D2 and the X and I didn't have to do the mail in rebate. So I now have a X!

Aaaaaaah, sweet timing.
I actually enjoyed waiting for my phone and going to Wal-Mart and pointing out the big empty cutout spot where the Droid X would have been and telling friends that that would be my new phone. It comes with an invisibility app.
