droid 2 communication with wireless router

Can my Droid 2 work with HughesNet and a wireless router?  My PC works fine, but the Droid 2 isn't finding the LAN.  My LAN is unsecured and I have entered its name in my Droid.  Even standing directly by the router I'm not getting a signal.

Yes it should have no problem connecting to the wireless router. To begin make sure your wifi on the phone is on:

To find networks in your range:
1 Touch Menu > Settings > Wireless &
networks > Wi-Fi settings.
2 Touch Wi-Fi to turn on and scan. If Wi-Fi is already
on, touch Menu > Scan. Your phone lists the
networks it finds within range.
Tip: To see your phone’s MAC address or other
Wi-Fi details, touch Menu > Advanced.
3 Touch a network to connect.
4 If necessary, enter Network SSID, Security, and
Wireless password, and touch Connect. When
your phone is connected to the network, the
wireless indicator appears in the status bar.

Once you have done this make sure your wireless router isn't hidden. You can log into the router from your computer by typing 192.168.1.1 into the search bar. Once you have done this just enter your username and password. for most routers the username is admin and the password is either blank or admin as well. If you need to unplug and reboot your router then search for it with your phone. This should help you look up and connect to the router to solve your problem.

Can this work if your phone is no longer activated w/ VZN. Can you still just use the internet part? can it still find wireless router and connect?

Curious.

DanielG, that’s a great question and you’ve come to the right place for help!

To answer your question, yes. You can still use your phone to connect to a WiFi connection even if it is no longer active on a Verizon Wireless account. You just need to turn on the WiFi on the device so it searches for available connections.

I trust this answered your question. I’m here if you need further assistance.

There are a few known bugs with the Droid 2's wifi, and Motorola has stated that some of these issues will be addressed in the next maintenance update: https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/226267#226267 Matt, the person posting about the update information, is the Motorola moderator of their forums.

Here's a thread at Motorola's community forum that might be helpful: https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/34798?start=15&tstart=0 The main topic is a different wifi issue, but some of the suggestions may apply, and I did see a little discussion about your issue there as well.
