droid 2 global texting issue

i continuously recieve a notification that says "text message not sent". when i tap to view the message, it says message is not available.  i have deleted all text messages, and still continue to receive the alert.  how can i stop this?

I've herd that the only way to get rid of this is to do a factory data reset. Fortunately it hasn't happened to me yet so I can't confirm.
