droid 2 sending duplicate text and withholding them

Does anyones droid 2 hold their messages? I will have service and not get any messages(texts) for a time period and then I will receive 5,6,7,8 messages all at once.  When I had been talking to these people right along so I know they didnt just stop replying.  Also I have been having issues sending messages, it will lately tell me the message hasnt been recieved on the other end but yet the person replies to it, or the other person gets my messages 2 or 3 times.  Or vice versa I recieve there's 2 or 3 times.  When I called verizon they said it was the towers in my area and that it was happening to everyones seemingly only "smart" phones.  but when I talk to people that i text they say it' only happens with me.

Please help me any suggestions are welcome!

Just because any suggestions are welcome, try updating your roaming capabilities, by dialing *228 and picking option 2.
I don't actually think this will solve the problem, but it's the place to start.

This sometimes happens with everyone phone but it should not happen consistently over a long period of time. Maybe just a day or two at most.

Here are some thing that will effect your text messaging:

1) low signal - if you have poor signal your  phone will recv text msgs in bulk, thats typical, signal is like the wind, it comes & goes

2) apps - try installing handcent and see if that does the same thing. if it does then its more likely signal or master reset if you have good signal.

3) your voice mail indicator, these are delivered through sms, if it never goes away clear out your VM box so that it does. If tehre is a msg stuck it will jam up your SMS

4) factory reset - this will tell you if its the phone or network, if you reset and it still happens its our job to fix the network or tell you youre in a marginal coverage area
