droid incredible not receiving messages

In response to my incredible telling me I had not enough storage space (which I had plenty of space) I factory reseted my droid incredible 1. However, in doing so, I no longer receive text messages. I can send them but I can't receive them. Has anyone encountered this problem and know a solution?

Just saw someone post on the HTC forums, in a thread related to this same issue.

Ok, I called HTC and they had me go to a website and download something. Now it works! Call 1-866-449-8358 from 6a to 1a EST.

So I called that number and spoke with CSR. She provided the URL for me. It's a direct link, so it points directly to the file. According to her, you point your phone's browser to the URL (as opposed to downloading the file to your computer and trying to transfer it over), and your phone will execute the file accordingly. I haven't tried doing this yet because my girlfriend is at work and has the phone on her person. But if anybody wants to give it a shot, here ya go:

I agree - This is the worst piece of crap update ever. Verizon needs to seriously look at whats going on here. My girlfriend and I both have INC's, and hers will no longer receive text messages since the Gingerbread update. Her dialer storage keeps on growing and growing (it's now at 61.29 meg) I'm assuming the incoming messages are getting stuck in there somehow, and not being relayed to the message app (we've always used handcent, but I've tried deleting that too and just tried to get the regular message app working, but to no avail.) The dialer storage app no longer has an option to "clear data" since the update either. I don't really want to reset her phone, because from what I've read, that doesn't even always work. I have tried everything I can think of - short of smashing the thing. It's not rooted, and has always been stock since we bought them. Luckily for now we had WhatsApp installed, so at least we can message each other.

If anyone has ANY ideas - please advise!

Have you guys went in an cleared your Msg's that can sometimes foul things up give it a try. Also hit Menu > settings > Manage applications Then tap All then scroll down down to Messages. Enter then tap Clear Cache / Data an then force close then tap the home. shut the phone down Via pulling the back cover an then pull the battery then Hold down power button a few seconds then reinstall battery an cover turn it back on then see if your messages will start coming in. Let me know if this works for ya . B33

Someone help me out here, my texts are completely screwd up. I recieved some this morning and now I'm getting nothing. I tried sending one from my dad's phone and I still haven't recieved anything....

I have been experiencing exactly the same issues as all of you. I called VZ on Tuesday to get a resolution and was told that the issue is happening for many Incredible users nationwide. I was also told that they were working on a solution for the problem, and days later the problem has not been fixed.

Verizon has been my service provider for years and until now I've been more than satisfied with what they have to offer. It is unfortunate that their lack of response/urgency for a nationwide issue is enough to make me switch.

I suppose I'll just cross my fingers waiting for a fix. Ugh.

The link does work and I am now gettin a message pending when sending text messages but the person receiving the text does receive it, so I have no clue why the pending message shows

On my incredible my messages so far are coming thru Ok an no hiccups i've also set my D inc. to notify me when a message goes out an that is also working Ok. but if things change i'll repost on it. B33

There is some new software on the way to address this issue. Here's the link to it to the support page which will be updated. If you cannot wait for the software update, continue reading my post below.

There are a limited number of Droid Incredible users that have their text messages negatively impacted by the update to Gingerbread. If you are experiencing problems receiving text messages, please call tech support at 866-892-7957 from a different phone. They will check your account and make sure that all is well.

If it is determined that the back-end provisioning is fine, and the issue is attributed to the update (known problem that has been escalated to HTC), they will give you an "additional option." I can't specify what that option is here, but I think you'll be pretty happy with it. If you have a representative that is unfamiliar with the process (it's pretty well known internally, but it's possible to get a rep that hasn't come across this situation), advise them to "Search InfoManager for 47597." There's only 1 search result, and that's the article discussing how to handle this problem with the Incredible.

I truly feel for all of you experiencing this issue. Thanks for your patience. We have fixes on the way, and options in the meantime while we get this fixed.

The additional option is most likely the APK file somebody posted a few messages above from HTC.

Thanks so much. I went to the link you suggested & downloaded the fix. (The first time it was blocked because my phone setting wouldn't allow apps & such from outside the Android market to be installed. Nice security feature, but just a heads up that you may have to change that setting 1st, and then you can change it back afterwards.)

Just had two text messages come through & 1 visual voicemail indicator. Can't imagine that's everything I missed over the past two weeks, but it's a start. Thanks for sharing. And as soon as I can upgrade, I think I'll be transitioning to the good ole iPhone.

I did a hard reset, a soft reset and a hot fix that that the Verizon tech support person instructed me to use and still no text messages. The first person was going to send a new phone as the fix, but because I was out of warranty (2 months out), she could not do it, even after trying with her manager. My options, she told me, were to buy another phone or do an early upgrade. Um, no thanks. I called back after stewing about it for awhile and asked to speak with a supervisor. I complained that it was not my fault the update had messed up my phone 2 months out of warranty and she agreed. She was confirming shipping details with me for the new phone when I mentioned that I have a crack in my screen. It happened the first month I got the phone and has become invisible to me because it is always there. Well, then, I could not get the new replacement phone she told me and gave me some analogy about a TV screen having a crack and the bulb burning out and the manufacturer would not honor the warranty because the TV screen was cracked. Really? If I have a crack in my windshield but my transmission falls out with 10,000 miles on my car, will Nissan not honor my warranty because my windshield is cracked? Ridiculous. I was told there would be a fix in 7-30 days. So, I downloaded a third party texting application, and cancelled my text messaging and visual voicemail with Verizon, who will therefore be getting less money from me each month until my contract is up. At that time, I will be switching phones and carriers.

just remember when you switch carriers they won't replace an out of warranty phone or a phone with physical damage either

I would hope that they or any carrier would fix a problem they created, regardless of the state of my phone. I didn't realize when I cracked it after having it for only two weeks that I could've swapped it out at that time, but that is my fault. This is theirs. The two have nothing to do with one another, period.

You should try the fix again. It totally worked for me. Go back to the top of this thread and find the link for the fix. Again, make sure you go to settings>apps, then check vie "unknown sources" box at the top so your phone will allow the download. I had to restart my phone for it to work. Good luck!
