Your not in a big city with sky scrapers or a inside a mostly metal building are you?
GPS usually has a hard time connecting in a office type building and outside in a large city like New York or Chicago.

no im out in the open pretty much , i have a handheld gps and a garin nuvi so im not new at this its definitely the phone itself .i appreciate everyone trying to help. i just called tech support and was told " it was a known issue but they dont have a fix right now " It seems some have no problems and others dont so i would think it is device related . maybe i should just bring it back and get a new one . again thanks to everyone

I have the same problem...it constantly searches for GPS. I'm on my third phone now, and it still doesn't work. Verizon and Motorola both say that it's a problem with Google...a third party app that they can't fix. I haven't had any luck in finding out a fix for it, or in finding a way to contact Google. It's frustrating, because the navigation feature was one of my main reasons for wanting this phone. And, yes, I have checked to make sure the GPS is on on every phone...the little sattelite shows up at the top, but it never finds it.

I am having same issue, Verizon store rep tells me that if you were with Alltel before they were bought by Verizon the GPS on Droid has issues. Something to do with the account and that Tech support knows about it.

Add the power manager widget and ensure the GPS is actually on. When you add the widget it's the icon that looks like a satalite dish. I usually leave mine off unless I plan on using the maps.

I had intermittent problems with GPS and found it was due to another application (Advanced Task Killer) I had loaded. When I killed applications that use GPS it would somehow prevent them from locking on the next time they were loaded.
I ended up un-installing Advanced Task Killer and had no more problems.
I have seen posts that say WeatherBug has caused problems with GPS, but I have no personal experience with it.
You may want to look at what else you have loaded and see if there are any issues there.

I had the same issue one day last week. I pulled the battery and reset the Droid and the GPS Navigation has worked fine since.
I still have the Advanced Task Killer app.

My GPS was fine at first then I also had the same problem with my GPS navigation not picking up a signal. Finally after many attempts on at least 2 separate occasions, I turned off my phone, removed the battery and rebooted my phone. I haven't had a problem with it since...
