Go by the 25th, the dates will continue to move up, but since it said the 25th when you placed your order thats the date for you. I placed my order on the 2nd my shipping date was the 18th but i got it on the 11th. Don't worry yours will be shipped before or on the 25th.

Whoa there, buddy.  It's all good.  Just because you see the date changing on the website does NOT mean that they keep pushing your ship date back.  As each day goes by, they move the "ship by" date one day forward as well.  Verizon is giving everyone a 2-week buffer to wait, due to shipments that pending from Motorola.

I ordered my Droid X on August 12th.  I just received my FedEx email with tracking number today, August 19th.  The delivery date is Aug. 23rd, but that's only because FedEx does not deliver on weekends, or it would be sooner.   If you placed your order on August 10th, you should be receiving a FedEx email notification VERY soon.  As I ordered mine two days after you did, and already received my FedEx email, I hope to God yours is on the way.

Good luck, my friend.

so you ordered on the 12th and estimated delivery date is the 23rd?  did you order online or over the phone?  Are you a new customer?  And what region of the country are you in?  Just curious...

thanks.

If the concept of 3-4 week backorder is giving so many people problems, I can only imagine how they react to milk expiration dates......

Think of it exactly like Milk sell-by dates:  If you buy a gallon of milk, in a couple of days the milk in the store will have a different date.  It doesn't mean the expected date on your product when you purchased it changes.  If your milk will expire on the 25th, it's date isn't going to change simply because bottles in the store now say Aug-31st.

Can someone explain the backorder issue, please. I can't believe that Motorola is producing these so slowly....

What is there to understand?

Demand exceeded supply...apparently by a ton.  They are trying to make them as quickly as they can.

Verizon released information that 300,000 units sold within the first 16 hours of release.  This no doubt exceeded VZW and Motorola's expectations as they expected these 300,000 to last over 1 week.

If the demand has kept up even on a scale half that as the first day Motorola would pretty much need to produce 100 phones per minute to keep up with the demand.

You know, the backorder issue for me is not that big of a deal .....  What this issue DOES tell me that there is FINALLY aniPhone KILLER that VZN is offering. Clearly there is a huge demand for the best network (VZN) and we've been screaming long enough for a iPhone-like device; since Apple refuses to allow the iPhone on the VZN network --- so far.

So I think this is really all great news and there  is a huge Android development effort going on right now. I think I read 70,000 APPS so far -- yea, compared to Apple's 300,000 ..... but it is really growing very fast ...  and I'm patient.  I can wait until 8/31 to see the FEDEX ship date appear.  YMMV

I can't wait to sit this next to my Apple-whore friend's iPhone and show him the key differences - or even the LIKENESS.

I've shown my phone to a couple of Iphone 4 owning friends who have told me if they can get out of their AT&T contracts early they would switch to the Droid X.

PS - not to mention FLASH support with Froyo  ....    There are a TON of web sites that use FLASH that the iPhone can't display.

Can't wait .. but I will ....

I thought I read somewhere that Motorola was only capable of making Droid X's at the rate of 60 to 70,000 per week, but Verizon could sell 3 times that number. (I could be mistaken regarding my numbers but my point still applies)  So, until the demand drops to under 70,000 Droid X's per week, the time between ordering and getting delivery will continue to increase.

On a side note, there was a flyer in with my last Verizon bill that said Verizon will be launching their LTE network later this year.  I would imagine there will be another supply and demand problem when that phone launches too.

If you saw or were told 8/16 it was a mistake.  2-3 weeks is the average wait time.

LOL @ Cody21 !

You described your friend as an Apple wh*re.   Ultimate LOLZ !   I was impressed with the first generation iPhones when they came out, but was entirely turned off by the AT&T-only crap.  Now that I've seen the Droid X, and how it stacks up against the iPhone, I can't help but laugh.

Let the revolution begin !   Whatever next big trend Apple throws at the country, just wait a while.  Another company will do it better.  The Droid X is a tiny version of what people WANTED the iPad to be  (removable SD card & USB port/storage).   All Motorola has to do now is duplicate the Droid X, but make it really huge.  iPad's down for the count.

The iPad.   Hmmmmmm.   iPad.     Sounds like what my computer needs when it starts PMS'ing.     :smileyvery-happy:

DROID DOES...........what Apple does....and more.
