Try this: http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-X-by-Motorola/droid-x-keeps-powering-off/td-p/506182
There are probably other posts here as well for this issue. Try a Search for "Power Off" or "Reboot"
Good luck.

I'm having this problem as well with my Droid X. I've had my refurbished phone for less than a year. How can I fix this?

Thanks wildman.
I too recommend disabling the "auto-restore" feature via Google. This will allow you to obtain all of your applications one-by-one, in an effort to rule out a possible culprit as the cause for your phone to reboot. I too have a DROID X running on Version 2.3.340, Android version 2.2.1 (FROYO) and do not experience power cycling issues. This leads me to believe it is not software related, but tied to a defective application that is causing the phone to shut down and reboot itself.
Hope this helps,

I was having the same problem after that 2.3.340 'fix' update we got a few months ago. I got a replacement phone, did the same thing. I turned off the auto rotate and haven't had the problem since. It sucks I can't have it rotate, but it's better the the phone rebooting anywhere from 3-10x a day. Until gingerbread is released this was my fix. Hope that helps

Have you tried Smart Rotator app from https://market.android.com/details?id=net.xdevelop.rotator_t&feature=search_result, it has worked well for me to have rotation off and still have rotation for wanted apps.

Thank all of the community members for sharing your stories and solutions. I also have the Droid X phone and know how I would feel if my phone was not working. It is possible that some downloaded apps could be causing the problems. It is also possible that the phone could just need to be reset to factory settings. I have provided instructions on how to reset your phones below. The link below will take you directly to the owners manual for the Droid X phone.
NOTE: before you reset you phone please make sure that you save your files and backup contacts. I am also recommending that you save all of your pictures and videos to your SD Card.

Crash recovery:
In the unlikely event that your phone stops responding
to touches and key presses, try a quick reset. Remove
the back cover and battery (“Assemble & charge” on
page 3), then replace and switch your phone on as
usual.
Total Factory Reset:
To reset your phone to factory settings and erase all
the data on your phone, press Menu > Settings
> Privacy > Factory data reset > Reset phone.
Warning: All data on your phone will be deleted.
(Nothing on your memory card is deleted.)

Been there. Done that. Phone makes a really nice paperweight. Unfortunately, I bought it to make and receive phone calls. If anyone can get my phone to stop shutting down numerous times a day, I would greatly appreciate it. Reboot does not work. Tried running the phone for awhile before re-installing my apps and that did not work. I'm really getting tired of getting a "refurbished" phone every week.

Did you disable the autorestore option before you log into google? If not it usually restores some apps and settings without you knowing and causes issues.... Try.
