Good Morning!
I use Droid X too so I'm very familiar with it. I'm sorry to hear of the problems you've encountered since migrating to Gingerbread. Honestly, I didn't use it much before GB and I love it since! My best recommendation would be a hard reset to restore to factory settings. It will not remove the GB update, but will get rid of any potential kinks caused by third party apps. Please ensure you know your Google/Gmail information, so after the re-activation you can log in and get the contacts and calendar back to the phone. You can restore apps too, under the Market icon. Your SD card will not be affected by the reset.
Please advise if you continue to have issues after the reset.
Thank you!

@OP - OK, welcome to the club ... the obvious questions:
1 - have you done the CLEAR CACHE procedure?
2- have you done the Factory Reset? This is what Verizon will do anyway before swapping out your phone.
You can do a Search in the forum to find these well-documented procedures.
good luck.

just so you know, same thing happened to my droid x today...only problem is my phone went to a solid black screen with the only thing showing was the notification bar at the top...i went to the verizon store that actually has service techs onsite...they tried to do a hard reset...but because i had already seen this post i asked why the update didn't come thru sooner since it had been out since june...the tech let us know that this wasn't the final update and had not been pushed for that reason...some of the phones were accepting it ok and some were not...because mine will not do a hard reset, they are sending me another one...the update can be reset but you have to go see a verizon service tech (don't go to one of the stores that are certified for selling only)...just thought this might clear up a little bit of misunderstanding with the update for the droid x
