I just bought the droid x and played around with it for maybe and hour to see what it was like when it suddenly shut off and so i plugged it into the charger and a battery looking symbol appeared with a question mark in it. I have tried to charge it but all i see is the question mark thing, Ive pulled the battery numerous times and no change. I tried charging in a computer and nothing happens it just has a green light in upper left corner on. I am really lost at what to do here and would love some advice please.

When the battery is depleted beyond a certain point it will not charge via a computer. You need to charge it with the wall charger.
You need to try charging it for about 8 hours for the initial charge, however totally draining the battery before it's initial charge has been reported to ruin the battery for some people. Some people have remedied this with placing the phone into a cold area for 10mins or so, then placed it onto the charger and let it charge. If this doesn't work you can try to exchange your battery for a replacement.

crb79 is correct, your issue is because you are charging on PC, Try plugging into the wall and allow the unit enough time to charge your device before attempting to use and you should be all good after that.

No i tried the wall unit most of the time, i just tried the computer because it didnt look like the wall unit was doing anything it would just show that question mark battery thing and not show that it was actually charging. I left the phone on the charger all night and still have nothing except for that question mark battery thing. I guess its a faulty battery or charger ill take it in to verizon today and hopefully they will fix the problem. thanks for the help though.

If it's not taking a charge it sounds like a classic case of the battery being shot. Take your charger in with you just in case. With today's devices once a battery gets below a certain voltage the device cannot recharge it, you have to use an actual battery charger.

I might also add that it sounds as though you played around with your Droid for an hour without charging it up first. It states right in the get started leaflet that the Droid X should be fully charged up before using. There usually is just enough juice in the battery to get your phone initialized, and that's all. This is true of all cell phones, or all the cell phones I've ever had. So, if your battery is shot, and it sounds like it is, before using your Droid with a new battery, give your battery its initial charge.
