freezing Droid X.

I can turn on my phone (but not off, I have to pull out the battery), but when I turn it on, it goes directly to the main screen, but then nothing, It kinda loads facebook, but not my background and I can click into settings but I can not press anything else (I.E applications, about phone) but then I can't get out of settings and then my phone pretty much just stops working. It never works long enough to try a reset. It acts like it's doing backup assistant or updating but then nothing. Am I just screwed?

Try booting it up in SAFE MODE to see if maybe a 3rd party APP that was installed is interfering --

- Power OFF the phone (or pull the battery). I fyou pull h battery, wait like 20-30 secs. before puttin git back in.)

- Press & HOLD the Menu button (far left button)

- Press the power up button, but continue to hold the MENU button

The phone will eventually come up and say SAFE MODE in the lower left corner.

TEST it ... does the problem persist?

If YES - probably time to try a RESET of the phone .. of course you're going to lose everything and will have to set it all up again.

If NO - you have some APP you installed that is causing the problem ... Time to start UNINSTALLING APPS and see when things appear to work correctly.

Let us know..

edit:  PS -- you COULD install a monitoring tool like SYSTEM PANEL (free version) and use it to see what's sucking up the CPU on the phone.

I got it into safe mode, and I can click into settings, but then it does the same thing. Not being able to click anything else and I get stuck in settings.  How do I rebot it?

To get out of SAFE MODE you need to Power off the phone as you normally would... If it's hung, then Battery pull like you've been doing ...

Sounds like it's time to perform a RESET ...

Settings / Privacy Privacy Settings  --  Turn OFF the "Automatic Restore" (uncheck it)

Click on FACTORY DATA RESET

This will wipe out your phone. And data daved on your SD card will still be there after the Reset. You'll then have to restore/reinstall your APPS and of course reconfigure..

I'd do the Reset without restoring anything first ... test it ... If it is still screwed up before reinstalling anything, I'd take it to a VERIZON store and get a new one...

Anyone else have better ideas?????

Good luck

No, the instructions you gave seem to cover the best solution.....   One thing, since phone locks as soon as it is booted you might want to follow these instructions:

Power Device Off First.....

1. Hold Home Button and press power

2. Screen will show a Android with a triangle with astrick

3. Let Go of Home Button and Power

4. Press Search Button (Far Left Button)

5. A blue menu will show at top of page, scroll to Wipe Cache and select.

6. Back Key

7. Wipe Data/Reset to Format Device

8. Select Yes to verify

9. Allow format to complete (Information at bottom of page will go through a few steps)

10. Once Format is complete Blue Menu will show at top again, select Reboot

Note: Use volume up and down to select opinion and use camera button as Enter,,,
