Ran about 14 minutes on WiFi, may depend on server location and load.
Changed the resolution on my background but the color looks better. now to see what apps if any will not work.
It was reported on another site that the upgrade would take you to android 2.3.340 with a system version of 4.5.596. I had downloaded the leak a few months weeks ago am at 2.3.340 but still on system version 4.5.588. When I check for updates it says my phone is up to date. How do I get this full upgrade?
Downloading the update as I type, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Edit: 18 minutes later..... success!
i show it available but i'll wait and see waht comments are generated here.

That is precisely the device I am holding out for. 12MP camera goodness with promise of a more advanced camera sensor for spectacular low light situations. Add to that dual core processor and I'm sitting happy.
Seems kinda dumb that VZW puts out a 'test' OS for those who have 588 yet we can't update from it to 596. They gave it to 'certain' users and now I'm stuck in not being able to update to 596. I love my phone, but should have realized that coming back to VZW they would screw me again at some point.... crb79 wrote:LOL It has been clearly stated that you can only update OTA from previous version. Can't update from leak straight to official. Go back to the suite you got leak and read how top go back top stock.

I updated just fine, but have a couple of questions (all of which I have now figured out, sorry if I have confused anyone).
FM Radio is no longer installed. Any reason for that? Any way to get it back?
[edit] My bad. FM Radio is there. But the shortcut I had defined was invalidated during the upgrade. Deleting and re-adding the shortcut solved this issue.
I now have 4 permanent icons across the bottom of every screen (contacts, contacts, text messaging, 'all apps'). Any way to get rid of those?
[edit2] You can replace 3 of those icons with any shortcut you want. There used to be a permanent 'all apps' button (the small arrow-in-a-circle) they've simply added 3 more icons down there.
[edit] for what it's worth, I have Android version 2.3.3, System version 4.5.596.MB810.Verizon.en.US.

Mine updated without a hitch also but I still have FM Radio. The app I notice missing is Voice dial. Voice command is still on it.... maybe they figured Voice dial and voice command was redundant.
The 4 permanent icons across the bottom replace the 3 permanent ones that were there previously. Not removable that I can see.
So far I'm liking the GB update. To early to tell about battery improvements etc.

my concern with the forthcoming Gingerbread upgrade, is that if I already have a copy of the Verizon gingerbread upgrade on my phone (the one that came out a few weeks back as a supposed 'test' that came out OTA), does that mean I'll get upgraded to the latest/greatest version or am I just out of luck - I think someone with VZW needs to clarify with this one for those few Droid X users that got that 'pre-release' version
VZW didn't sent out a ""test" OS", Motorola did the test OS and gave specific instructions to those who signed up for the "test". Those who were authorized to use that update haven't had any problems updating to the current update as this update was pushed to their phones last Friday.
So if you were an "official tester" you need to check your email and the test boards for instructions from Motorola. Otherwise, fix your own mistake rather than blaming it on VZW.
I got the update this morning and so far so good. I like it, still need to figure out profiles, I wish there were sound profiles.
I am happy with it so far.
Mine id downloading now! yay!

It "IS" VZWs fault because they are the ones that OTA'd it to my phone. You have no idea how I received it as it was not something I signed up with Motorola to do, so instead of trying to debunk how I got ahold of it, you should offer assistance as a fellow user, otherwise don't reply if you all you are going to do is say I wasn't a tester. VZW now is forcing me to have to flash my phone back to Froyo just so I can get the upgrade that they're not allowing people with .588 to receive an OTA against. That my friend IS VZWs fault.
