I downloaded the OTA zip file from the Internet and renamed it to UPDATE.ZIP and put it in the top level directory. I did the manual boot (down volume plus power button) and loaded the new update. That is a manual update that results in the exact same update as if VZW had sent it to my phone. Thus, there is a manual option. I did my Froyo update in the exact same manner a year ago.
Did it manually. Worked fine.
don't you have to go to the android recovery in order to recognize it?
