google back up

I have tried a number of times to back up my contact list with google and it does not work... verizon tech support could not understand why it was not working, I cannot get the calendar feature to work either, the whole reason I got this phone was for this feature... verizon only offered to email google. I think that goes into a black hole, never to be heard from again.

Make sure you have your google account linked to the droid.

On mine, that's all I did, and it auto synched between both of them without any prompt or notification.

Also, if you go to...

Social networking

Menu button -> manage accounts

Click on the google account, if it's not there, click add account and add it

make sure the Sync buttons are all checked (green).

You can also click the menu button here and click 'Sync Now' to sync them immediately and to test it easily.

I tried what you suggested.  The messages I received on the driod x said it was successful, but when I go to contacts in my gmail account they are not there from the driod.  I tried sync'ing twice and still nothing.  I had talked to tech support Saturday from Verizon they said sometimes it takes a while for google to update, well it has been 48 hours that seems like a long time.  I don't think Verizon really knows what is going on with these phones, I have so many problems I think i am just going back to my blackberry.

yeah it should definitely update alot faster then that.

Try linking it to a new gmail account and see if that one syncs

make a new gmail account and put 1 contact in it named test or something obvious, then put the account into the droid and sync it and see if that one updates.

Just to see if it's a problem on your gmail account, or gmail in general
