so phone was on the charger for a bit after I came home from work. Disconnected it and went to look at a FB message. Phone just up and dropped 3G altogether....no 1X, just dropped it completely. Tried the airplane mode trick and nothing, but then out of the blue it just shut itself off and restarted....that's a completely new one. It's been dropping 3G completely about once a day for the last week....not sure why but just completely lose it. A factory reset was done on Saturday and only limited apps have been put back on the phone....none that should seriously hamper the phone.
So what's the deal VZW? When are you guys going to finally fix these GB problems once and for all? Or are we just stuck with it until we can either go throught the upgrade process and change phones or we just up and choose to dump VZW altogether? Either way we as customers are out money since we have to either pay the upgrade fee, or pay an early termination fee, plus fees involved with another carrier for new service.

Unfortunately, there may be no such thing as an app that can be ruled out as one "that should seriously hamper the phone". You've heard this before, but have you tried uninstalling all apps?
I, for one, refuse to do that. I bought this phone to use with apps and with apps I am going to use it...... bugs and glitches accepted as part of the package.
I shouldn't have to accept it as part of the package, but (my new favorite X saying) it is what it is.
The 3G situation is a radio thing and probably (in my opinion) not related to apps. There have been many threads in the Moto forum about this, dating back to the release of this phone last year.
I have noticed it drop out on each of my X's since I purchased the first phone. It usually would come back on and does now, after the update to the update (GB).
One more X behaving badly story. I was using the MOTO WIDGET sticky note. After exiting out of it, it froze. It finally minimized, but my homescreens were locked. Then icons started disappearing from my homescreen. (I use Blur for a U.I, not another launcher).
I ended up restarting the phone. How could an app conflict with a Moto widget? I suppose it's possible.
Just saying, I know what you're saying and you aren't the only one. Maybe the others have suggestions.

I'm pretty certain this isn't an app problem.....when it completely drops 3G I doubt an app is telling it to do so. That to me screams to be a radio problem communicating with the tower.
I like you bought the phone to use with various apps available on the market. Unlike ALOT of people I don't just throw every app on the phone I want (I learned from windows that just cause it says on a web page that it'll make your system virus free means it will clean your system - usually just loads something else that will screw up your system). I'm very particular about what I have on the phone, but I don't think I should have to use it barebones just for it to run correctly
Don't get me wrong the Droid X is a great phone.....IMO it beats the pants off the iPhone that I came from, but I just want the OS on the phone to work as advertised, the problems to be fixed by VZW instead of being told 'do a factory reset' everytime something comes up - personal experience has been that while a factory reset may fix one problem, it will create another one or more. I know I'm just preaching to the choir.
But you're right, it is what it is

My phone drops 3G quite often, but never shuts itself off because of this. Do these two always go hand in hand for your phone?
It's odd, and definitely a new issue. Atleast a new one for me.

This statement reminds me of a video where the person didn't want to take no for an answer.....
Here's the video....

Best of luck,
Not sure if that is a good natured jab, or if you are serious. There is some sarcasm in my statement, but honestly, I've had it with the troubleshooting.
I cannot imagine that you might be trying to state your case that a person SHOULD have to do all the endless troubleshooting and weeding through apps, rebooting in Safe Mode, standing on your head, etc. with this phone.
If you are, have fun.
I will acept the bugs and glitches until my next phone.
Call me stubborn, but anyone that insists that the troubleshooting this phone requires is something that should be accepted should be ridiculed. NOT me.

Well, It definately wasn't personal and I guess I really didn't have a point to my post. I was just saying that your statement about "I bought this phone to use apps and I'm gonna use apps no matter what" reminded me of that USS Montana video, which I thought was humurous. Sort of a "**bleep** the torpedoes, full speed ahead" sort of thing.
Seriously though, I feel for you guys (and/or gals) that are having issues with your "X's" I have had my "X" since launch day and it's been the absolute best phone I've ever had. I hope the problems get solved quickly, although that doesn't appear to be the case. Barring a solution, I hope the next phone you get treats you as well as my "X" has treated me.
Again, best of luck..... seriously!
(can you believe that, they *bleeped* out d*a*m.....

Oh I absolutely love the phone....don't get me wrong. I get that any phone is gonna have problems, but this has gotten ridiculous to have consistent problems because of the software integration. I work for a major computer company so I know how finicky software can be with a system, but considering all of the problems that are posted here and elsewhere on the internet, Motorola isn't doing all that great of a job of resolving them. I mean tower connectivity issues should be their top concern, because if it isn't for the phone radio talking correctly to the tower, then you wouldn't really have much use for the phone....that's like going to Russia and talking to someone on the street without an interpreter. I just hate that I can't enjoy the true power of the Droid X because of these problems.
Yeah the dropping of 3G and a reboot was a new one, and maybe it was just merely coincidental, since it dropped 3G completely exactly a week prior (maybe it doesn't like thursday nights IDK lol) since I was looking at a facebook post when it dumped 3G and then rebooted....the FB app hasn't exactly been stable lately.
It gets me by so I'm ok with it, but just wish VZW and Moto would get their act together is all

Yes, the dropping of 3G is strictly a tower problem. It has nothing to do with any apps. As for the phone rebooting, I don't believe that the two are connected. It just may be that they followed each other close enough in time to appear that they were connected. There are several thread talking about both problems. As for the rebooting, this has been occurring before GB. It was quite common during Froyo, so it's not strictly a GB problem.
