high pitched static on other end is a software bug that needs to be fixed immediately

Every once in a while, the callers on the other line start hearing nothing but a high pitched static from me. I have no idea when it happens or what causes it. I can hear the other person just fine but they cannot hear me at all. I find out when the other person keeps saying hello and eventually hangs up. Once it happens, it happens on every call after that.

The only thing that fixes it is restarting the phone which is extremely annoying. This is most definitely a software bug and has nothing to do with whether you have good signal or if you use a case or not.

I tested this with by calling my wife's phone when she was with me after the glitch happened.

1) I had no case on the phone.

2) I was getting a perfect signal (also perfect 4g)

3) Switching to loudspeaker did nothing.

4) Turning noise reduction on or off did nothing.

5) muting and unmuting did nothing (except when muted there was obviously no static, but it came back upon unmuting)

6) Turning wifi on or off did nothing

7) Turning bluetooth on or off did nothing

Answering an important call and hearing "hello, hello, hello and click" is the most annoying thing ever. Because then I have to restart my phone which takes quite a while and the other person is repeatedly calling me in the meantime.

This needs to be fixed immediately. After all, this device is a phone first. All those smart functions come second. If I can't make or receive calls properly this device has to go.

This problem is being discussed in other threads. You may want to review those and apply the suggested fixes to see if that helps.

Good luck.

I did read the other threads, and the reason I opened a new one was because the other threads focus on the case. All the suggested "so-called" fixes involve removing the case as far as I have seen.

I have never used a case and I have this problem. It happened 3 times in the last four days.

Also some threads refer to it as a call quality issue which to most people sounds like static added on top of voice. That is not the case in my experience. There is no voice, only static. It is not a call quality issue where it doesn't sound crystal clear. This problem is a software glitch that sends nothing but high pitched static to the other end on every call until a reboot of the phone, while incoming sound is not affected at all.

I just wanted to identify the problem more accurately so that whoever is in charge can look into it (Whether it is Verizon or Samsung engineers) rather than brushing it off as if people were being too picky about the call not being crystal clear.

Thanks

Fair enough. You did not mention what research or steps you had undertaken before posting, so I thought I would suggest a review of others' contributions.

Good luck with solving this problem.

I didn't mean to lash out on you, I apologize if I came off that way.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is anything we can do. I believe it is clearly a software issue and my frustration mostly stems from the lack of faith I have in Verizon in fixing this problem. I guess I am just trying to get their attention so that maybe they include a fix for this issue in their next update that is rumored to be coming sometime this summer

thanks

No worries. I hope you get it resolved quickly. I use my Charge for business and that would definitely be unacceptable. Haven't encountered that problem yet, though...I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't!

I am having the same problem, except I also hear the high pitched static along with the other party.  Also, calls have been dropping more frequently.  I'm pretty sure it started when I began receiving 4g, a week or so ago, and with almost every call.

If you bought your phones at a VZ store or from VZ online, you have 14 days to return the phone for another Charge (at no cost) or another model phone (for a $35 restocking fee).  I would not wait too long with this kind of problem...take the phone back and at lease get another Charge to see if the problem gets solved that way.

Oh no! This definitely can be annoying!!

We have had others with the Droid Charge call/write in with the same issue. Replacing the phone didn't resolve which also leads me to believe it is a software glitch.

First, make sure you do have the most recent sofware version vy going to:

Settings>About Phone>System Updates>Check New    You should currently have i510EE4

We have let Samsung know that there is an issue with some of the Droid Charge's having a high pitched noise.

At this time, they are looking into it in order to provide a resolution.

I have just had this happen to me for the last 30 minutes, until I rebooted the phone.  As described the other caller hears the loud static noise and hangs up.  In my case, it was my 8 yo daughter repeatedly trying to reach me.  Fortunately, I was able to borrow a functional phone and call her back reasonably quickly, although it was stressful.  I'm glad that I found this thread as it confirms that this is not a network problem.  I am new to the Verizon network and android phones.  This is my second Droid Charge in three weeks, the first had multiple defects..  This QC/product performance from Samsung is unacceptable.  I have spent way too much time trying to troubleshoot the various issues with this product since purchase.  I will be returning this phone for something more stable and predictable.
