home screen won't rotate orientation

Okay, so my first "glitch" maybe. I rotate the home screen but it doesn't follow the turn. Every other app does it, just not the home screens.

Ideas? I checked the settings and they're all how they should be.

This was done on purpse so that you always know which way the homescreen is oriented when you turn on the phone.  Seems like this should have been a user decision though.

It will rotate with the hardware keyboard open though.

Indeed, it will with the keyboard open, however, in other way. Makes little sense, since MOTO themselves show photos with the homescreens in the landscape position.

The home screen is supposed to rotate. Today my phone stopped auto rotating the home screen. It used to auto rotate now it doesn't, and yes, I have checked the auto rotate option.

As far as I know, the homescreen without the keyboard out is not supposed to rotate.

I noticed the same thing, all of the apps will rotate without the keyboard open, but not the home screen.

Any fixes for this?

It's not supposed to happen. It doesn't happen on the MT3G, On the Cliq, the Hero/Eris, G1, It doesn't happen on any Android phone.

Mine rotated on the home screen for the first few days and then it mysteriously stopped.  If it is not supposed to rotate why is it doing this on the Motorola website video?

http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Mobile-Phones/ci.Motorola-DROI... click on the "see it" video in the lower left hand corner.

The first thing is shows is the home screen locked and unlocked in the landscape orientation.  You can say it is not supposed to do this, but it obviously did at one time.  I know that I am not imagining that mine used to do this.   If you Google this problem you will find that it has happened to a lot of people.

I'm not saying that you, or anyone else that had that happen to is imagining things. What I'm saying is that it's not supposed to happen, and they might have hotfixed it.

Sorry, I was not implying that you said anyone was imaging this.  I just wanted to point it out so that people whose phones that might have never rotated could see that some of them really did at one time.

My biggest question is why shouldn't it rotate?  I know that you said it is not supposed to, but it just seems like a nice option, one that a lot of people had and really liked- so why take it away?  I don't see what the big deal is just to leave it installed and working.  Where's the harm in that?

They should also not put a video out showing that it does something that it really doesn't.

I thought i was going crazy. Checked my phone this morning and no rotation. Thought maybe one of the apps i had installed caused this issue. Then thought maybe it never did it. Now i know that it did. I hope we can come to a conclusion on what happened....

You know, coming from a MT3G, I can understand the idea. Even moreso for MT3G Users as opposed to users because MT3G Users don't have keyboards. We do. Why would it rotate, if that would dimish the reason we would use our full QWERTY keyboard?

It would be a nice addition, but I could see the practical view from their point (if it's a hotfix).

I have the same issue.  I bought my phone Friday, and the home page, app screen, and contact screen all displayed and operated in landscape until tonight.  5 days.....Now it has mysteriously stopped rotating unless the keyboard is open.  There must be a fix to this problem.  I do have the automatic rotation button checked as well. I even *228 update.  ????

If you want the home screen to rotate you can use the "Open Home" home screen app.  It allows for rotation on the home screen, but I don't think the contacts screen rotates.
