If you remove your Facebook account from your phone, it will get rid of any contact information provided from them.

Instead, use the official Facebook application or some alternative. Unfortunately, there is no option to prevent those contacts from being added to your contact list; at least none that I found.

As the previous post said, you have to delete the Facebook account from your Account list. It's easier to manage by just downloading the free Facebook app.

The same thing happened to me when I added my Twitter account to the Account list. I was rather confused when I saw a bunch of usernames in my contact list. They disappeared once I deleted the Account from the list.

How can I delete one of them, and how do I know which one?

This just worked for me - get rid of the facebook account on your phone and install ONLY the facebook application (from the Marketplace).

It overwrote my contacts as well, and everytime I try to remove the account, it gives me an error and says "try again."

I've been 'trying again', now since I got the phone 4 days ago, with the same results each time. I've tried modifying my privacy settings on Facebook. I even deleted the addresson Facebook that the  phone associated with me. I don't want nor need all those people on my phone contact list, and certainly not in the order the phone insists all of my contacts should be in.

ARGH!

Try going to the My Accounts app on your phone.  This should show your Facebook account among others.  Select the Facebook account.  Then use the remove account button.

Some people report getting an error message at this point, but it worked for me.

if you go into the contacts and select the menu there is an option called "hide/show" where you can select it to hide all facebook contacts from your contacts list. It's also advanced enough where I hid all my facebook contacts, but then went in and selected a few facebook contacts I still wanted to show up and link.

That's all fine and good, but I seldom go into the contacts list to look someone up. However, the place where I would find limiting which people (or category of people) show up is the suggestions and voice recognition, which still go through your ENTIRE contacts list, up to and including anyone (or thing) you happened to say, tag in a photo, like your great-grandmother who died before you were born or maybe your ex-girlfriend's pet rat... need I point out that, in my opinion, this was a poorly executed feature?

Don't get me wrong - I'm just bitter that I can't upload a photo I took to facebook without everyone under the sun showing up in my cell phone's contacts list the next day - and then not being able to do anything about it but "hiding" them or completely removing all facebook functionality - ESPECIALLY when I see countless forum posts that indicate this is not a problem with most android-based phones, just the MOTOROLA ones. Not syncing all (or even ANY - boy that would be nice) of your facebook contacts seems to be a feature that was removed for the Droid X/2. Is there a reason for this, or was it a joke? laziness??... grumble grumble - if you need me I'll be in my hole...

My Droid 1 worked fine with contacts, I don't know what happened with the Droid 2. It sucks though.
