Great answer WCMack! Just to add to those excellent instructions. If you see Google listed under 'Manage Accounts' which you should. Simply select the account and ensure that the box next to 'Contacts' is checked. This will prompt all of your contacts to be backed up by Google.

The main way to do this is through the Accounts and sync settings on the phone. It depends on where you keep your contacts on your PC and whether you are in a corporate network or not.
To start, you need to access your settings and set up an email account through which the associated contacts will sync with your phone. From any home screen, press the Menu key (left physical key) and then select Settings > Accounts and sync and then scroll down to the "Manage accounts" section. If there is no account shown there, press the Add account button at the bottom and configure your account according to the prompts. Then sync with that account and the associated contacts should populate to your phone.
