if your existing contract includes the $29.99/month data plan. if not, then you will have to add that to you plan, but i don't believe you would have to sign a new contract. also....vzn sells certified refurbished droids for less than half the retail price (motorola droid....not sure what other ones they have available).
(Sorry, I just couldn't take it...)
That's exactly what I did when I bought my Droid X. Already had a data plan with the original Droid. Bought the X for full price and activated it. You gotta want it reaaaaallllly bad to pay that for the phone. And I did. So I did.

You are not the only one to fork out a bunch of $$$$ for a phone. I spent $300 on my android phone. Heck it is not even out any more!
I understand your concern for purchasing a Droid. You can purchase the device at the full retail price at which your contract will not be extended on your account. When purchasing the Droid you will have to select a data plan of $29.99 or higher and is a per month charge on your account. If you were up for an upgrade you could purchase the device which would include your upgrade discounts and then your contract would extend for 2 years.
