So, I just randomly lost all of the text messages I had saved (for various reasons) today. I checked and I don't have the delete messages box checked in the settings so it shouldn't delete anything on it's own. Any idea why? Has this happened to anyone else? Are all the messages just gone forever or can they be recovered?
I am afraid they are gone forever. Others are reporting the issue also. I use SMS Backup to send any text messages to a file in my email..... JUST IN CASE it happens to me.
I lost some once when I was playing with force closing of apps and apparently, I chose the wrong app to shut down.
how do you back them up? I might need to start doing that too.
Download from the app market 'SMS backup' and follow the instructions.

I just recently had to reset my phone to factory settings because my contacts app stopped working.
Totally didn't think about backing up my saved text messages and I lost all of them that I have protected on my phone! So sad!
Just downloaded a SMS backup app! Looking forward to NOT losing protected messages in the future!

If they are from more than 5 days ago...they are gone forever.
Verizon will only have your texts from within 5 days.
Now all you can do is move forward to protect yourself in the future with SMS Backup types apps.
Yes, I'm pretty sure most of the protected messages were from longer than 5 days ago. I am glad that I downloaded the sms back up app so I don't have this issue again in the future.
