do you use an app for messaging? i only ask because i tried to use an app for notifications sounds one time and as soon as i set a tone from the app for text alerts, i lost all my texts. apps sometimes can screw up the phone. if not, then i don't know why it would do that? (fyi....i uninsatlled the app and reinstalled and it's been fine ever since).
I don't know why it would happen, but it just happened to me, as well. All texts, including attached pictures, gone. If anyone hears why this happens, I'd love to know.
It has only happened once to me so far. But I lost all texts. I use the stock message program and not a third party app (like handcent)

Maybe it is just best to save the text messages to your sd card.
If you have Advanced Task Killer running make sure you don't have messages marked stop/kill because that can delete your messages.Sorry about that happening!
