message notifications

I just got the Droid Incredible 2 and I was wondering if there was a way that I could view a new message when my phone is locked instead of having to unlock it and click the messages app to view it. Basically, i just want a quicker way to view the all the text in the new message and reply to it. When I get a new message it only vibrates and rings, but if I'm not near my phone I don't hear it. I've checked all the possible settings and I can't find anything that would fix my problem. Is it even possible? Please help!

There's a way to do this, but you'll need a 3rd party texting app. Handcent specifically does this. It has a pop-up notification for a text, much like an iPhone does, that will light your screen up and show you the message, and allow you to reply - all without unlocking or even "waking" your phone.

I don't have a Droid Incredible2, but have other Android phones.  I don't think that you can view messages from your lock screen.  If the DInc2 gets the update to Sense 3.0, then you will be able to tell that you have a new message, but you will not see the full text of the message from the lock screen (unless the message is very short).

One thing that could make it slightly easier is that once you unlock the phone, you should see the message indicator in the notification bar.  Pull down the notification shade and tap the message.  It will take you into the actual message so that you can see the full text and respond.

Executive Assistant in the Marketplace will let you choose a number of things to display on the lockscreen from upcoming calendar events, tasks, messages news feeds and more.
