missed calls droid 2

i have the motorola droid 2, and more than twice a day i don't get a call only the voicemail. it rings on the other side but no ringing on my end. It doesn't just happen with one person, or just from cell phones, both landline and cell. it does not show up on the missed calls either. also this has been going on for a long time but i did not want to take it back and go through the hassle of setting up contacts and all the other stuff on a new phone. its just been getting worse lately i would only miss once in awhile not its up to 2 or more.

Hi Merrymaryinmi,

I have reviewed my references, as well as this device, and there is no known issues with missed calls on the Droid 2. I would like to clarify that if your signal is weak in a specific area, a call may not come in. Though the caller may hear ringing on their end, when a signal is weak, the network will attempt to get the call through to the device. If the device does not get the incoming call, it will go to Voice Mail. However, in these cases the device will not show a missed call. This is due to the fact that the call did not come in. Basically, the only way that you will know you missed that call is if the person leaves a Voice Mail message.

In addition, this call will not appear in your usage details, if checking online. This is due to the fact that customers are not billed for unanswered calls.

What we would need to do is figure out if your issue is equipment-related or network-related. I would first like to mention that it is a good idea to get into the habit of powering the phone off and on once every couple of days, and not to leave it powered on for days or weeks at a time.  There is no need to leave the phone powered down for any significant amount of time, a minute or 2 is perfectly fine.  The reason for this is that every time a wireless device powers on, it re-registers itself with the network.  There is a constant connection from the device to the network, and this registration can sometimes "time out".

Next, please check the coverage area in which you are located, at the following link:

http://www.vzw.com/coverage

I would like you to then test your device by calling it from another phone. If you are getting a weak signal and the calls are not coming in to the device, this could simply be the nature of the service due to your location. However, if you show a strong signal and the calls do not come in to the device, then you may be looking at an equipment issue.

I do want to stress that missing calls is not showing to be an issue with the Droid 2.

However, I would be more than willing to contact you for further troubleshooting if this is happening to you. Just send me a PM with your name and contact information.

I hope this information is helpful for you. Have a good day!

This has been an ongoing (+- 9 months) problem for my Droid 2 as well.  I've reset the phone multiple times, I've worked with technical services who have "checked the local towers", etc.  The final suggestion was to purchase a signal amplifier for the house.  Only I miss calls at locations other than my house so this didn't seem like a resonable fix.  Since I'm required to be on-call for work, I'm now paranoid about frequently checking my phone to see if a voicemail or text has come in without any call ringing.  I've literally "missed" calls while holding the phone in my hand - never rang.  Am missing 3 - 4 calls a week.  Doubt there's a fix, but there is a problem.

Hi vogtkinn :

Missing phone calls is definitely concerning while being on call.  There is one thing that I'd like for you to monitor in addition to all that Christina has posted above.  Check your signal strength.  I know that sounds basic; maybe even silly, but if you are in an area with pockets of marginal coverage, it could be normal behavior.  If you have 1 bar of service, and you can barely hold onto a signal, there may be times where the network is looking to deliver the phone call, but simply can't because the signal isn't strong enough.

Another thing I like to test out with people is checking other phones in the area.  If you have another Verizon Wireless phone in the same location that is having the same problems, it would confirm a network-related problem. If other phones do not have the same issue, your signal strength is good, and you are still having the issues, it may be beneficial to look into replacing the device.

If you have any questions or need more details, feel free to PM me.

Thanks,

Hi Merrymaryinmi,

Before calling the insurance company and paying a deductible for a replacement, please check the coverage in the area where this is happening. This is especially true if the issue is happening in a specific location. I mention this due to the fact that if your signal is weak, an incoming call may not come in. In addition, if you do not get the call, the phone will then not show a missed call. Basically, in these cases, the only way you will know that call came through is if the person left you a voice mail.

This is something that is really just  the nature of the service, as not all calls will come in, depending on your physical location. So, after checking the coverage area, you may find that this issue is due to your physical location.

You are able to check your coverage at different areas by clicking on the following link:
