Just got the DroidX. LOVED it from the minute I turned it on. Activated it in Minneapolis while visiting family and used it for close to 3 weeks in and out of verizon network coverage and roaming areas.
I live in Alaska and when I left the lower 48 to drive through Canada back to AK I turned my Droid off in the U.S. and waited till I was in AK to turn it back on. When I turned it back on I was unable to pick up a 3G signal and in addition to that I can't send or receive picture messages nor can I access mobile web or my apps unless I am connected via WI-FI.
Is there a way to update roaming capabilites while not in a verizon network area?
Or is there something else I can do?
I am extremely dissapointed about this, because I was told by a customer service rep over the phone before I ordered the DroidX that as long as I activated the phone in a verizon network area it should work fine in AK. I trusted this advisement, because previous to my new phone I had a Blackberry Pearl which worked fine when activated in a verizon network area.

Yes you can update roaming by dialing *228 and then #2 from your device.
