the droid x has so many good qualities and apps, but when you don't get a good signal nothing works! it's imbarrising to have to walk outside and tell people you will call them back when you know you are going to get disconnected.A lot of people are worried about when they will get the 4g network, i would be happy with a 3g network. did i get a bad phone or do other people have this problem?

4G doesn't effect phone quality anyway, this is intended for data transfer... Now as for the reception issue you are having, have you tried updating the roaming towers by dialing *228 and option 2? This usually helps improve reception issues, also have you verified you are simply in a week reception area do to lack of towers. Verizon has a nice large reception area but there isn't any way to guarantee service everywhere, before I had Verizon I couldn't get any reception at my house.

As Wildman was saying, your 3G 4G coverage doesn't have anything to do with voice calls, they transmit over 1X.
I looked at Montgomery Al on the coverage map and it shows pretty solid coverage with deadzones West by South West of town just north of 80 & 97, and NW of town near where 85 and 49 intersect.
If you are getting a good signal outside of certain buildings it's most likely due to the buildings construction or a signal interference within the building. If the *228 option 2 method does not help you, you should do some research into what could be interfering with your signal.
