when i call or receive a call the person on the other end of the line complains about keypress sounds. i can not hear them and the phone is in a otterbox holster that is permanently mounted to the dash. have tried safe mode, taking the otterbox off, speakerphone, even holding phone. nothing works and it is irritating having to repeat myself constantly.

Is there no way for the person on the other end to be creating the sound on their side?

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Hello jimmcqueen,  Lets's make sure you are able to consistently speak on the phone!  How long has this been happening?  Does this happen on every call?  Using Safe Mode was a great way to rule out an application causing the problem.  Have you gone as far as completing a hard reset to clear any operating system corruptions.  You can also try clearing the cache of the "phone" application.  Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>Phone>Clear cache and/or data.  I look forward to hearing from you to find a resolution.

Thank You,

I am so glad that someone else is having this problem! When talking to my girlfriend, I hear a intermittent beep. It sounds exactly like in the old days when a button on a touchtone phone would be accidentally pressed while on the line with someone else. I only hear the beep on my end. She does not hear it and explains that she is not moving or moving the phone when I say it happens. It is a single beep and they are intermittent. It will usually happen once or twice during a 15-20 min call. I have tried replicating the beep from my end by pressing the keypad while speaking. This has not replicated the problem. We both have iPhones. She has a 4s and I have a 4.

Good morning gramboda!

I know the intermittent beep can be annoying. The noise can come from the other party texting or using the phone for other functions while talking on the phone with you. They won't know you can hear the beeps, but they can be multi-tasking.  I know this because its happened to me. Someone else hears beeps when I'm texting or using other functions on my phone while on a call.  They can try placing their keypad on mute, which may help from anyone hearing beeps while multi-tasking.

I hope this helps!

Thank you,

Thank you for the response. However, I can say 100% the issue is not due to multitasking. First, this only seems to be happening with my girlfriend who is using an iPhone which isnt capable of multitasking. Second, as this happens every time I speak to her, we have worked to troubleshoot the issue. I can assure you the beep has nothing to do with anything she is doing on her end. I would be happy to troubleshoot further if you have suggestions on what to try. Thanks!

Were you ever able to get this issue resolved? I have an iPhone 4S and I've
had five different people tell me that they hear intermittent beeping while
we're on the phone. Some of these calls are to other Verizon phones and some
are to landline phones. The people at the Verizon store couldn't reproduce the problem
so they just ordered me a replacement phone. During the second call that I made
with my refurbished replacement phone the beeping started again so it wasn't
just my phone and it isn't an app that I had on my phone because the
replacement phone only had the apps that are factory installed on it.  It happens even if I put the phone on speaker and set it down so it can't be bumped and it's not due to incoming calls.  Any
insight would be greatly appreciated.

My iphone 4 has also been beeping while on a call. No incoming texts or emails.  The other person on the line usually starts to get pretty annoyed.  My friend and I that it happens with more frequent beeps also has an iPhone. We have both had it on speaker so no one was actually touching the phone at all and it still kept doing it. All settings have been checked and nothing out of the ordinary. Would just like it to stop.

Hey everyone!

So it sounds like we have a problem with all iPhones beeping. This is a very particular problem so let's see if we can get it figured our once and for all.

I did see some reports of people indicating that this is happening when they are walking. We thought it might be something with the Nike iPod, so please make sure this is turned off in Settings.

There have also been reports of beeps as a call begins. That issue has been resolved with iOS6, so please make sure your phone is up to date.

Could you also please try and turn on the Silencer switch (should be at top left and should be red if silent) and let me know if the beeping continues?

Also, the battery is fully charged and there aren't any indicators for charging on the screen, correct?

Can you also please try and close all applications (double tap home button and press and hold each app to minus it and close it)? It may be a notification from an application or sound from something like Angry Birds that can't get through because you are on a call.

Let's try all of these to see if something solves it. If not, please let us know and we can go further!

Thanks!

I am having this exact same problem - random dial tone appearing when my gf is driving through blue-tooth (no possible way she is hitting dial tone keys). Also I should note all potential audio related inconsistencies that could make noise have been turned off.. Also, I recently transitioned my account from ATT wireless where I was not having this issue.. so far extremely disappointed with the call quality of Verizon with the iPhone 5. Constantly hearing dial tones while talking on the phone is nearly unbearable - I cut off conversations often due to the noise.

I can understand where this would be a very annoying occurrence ahzari! I want you to keep on talking during those important conversations! Does this happen with every caller? You mentioned bluetooth. Does it happen when not connected with a bluetooth headset or hands free device? Have you tried a soft reset by holding down the power and home keys? Let's figure this one out!

Sincerely,

Thanks for your help with this Michelle. I can tell you that all of troubleshooting steps you outline in your post do not apply to my situation (Nike, bluetooth, old IOS, etc). However, I will try "killing" all running applications and report back with my findings. I know my GF has many apps on her phone and it would not surprise me if something is "calling out" for updates. I have not thought of this. Stay tuned.

Tried killing all apps and still had the problem. The other night it was incessant, happening several times a minute! Then on other calls, it would only happen once or twice.

Hi Gramboda! I regret to learn of this issue, as it does seem like it would get to me as well! Let's get to the bottom of it for you, and see if we can't help any other users in the forum while we're at it! I know that you mentioned that this is happening with your girlfriend's iPhone, but I'd like to ask if it happens when you are on calls with other iPhone users too? When it happens on the call, have you checked to see if you are getting notifications when it happens? Do you notice a pattern that this issue happens when you are walking while using the phone? I'd like to ask a favor of you, to call your girlfriend and test it. If you are stationary, does it happen? If you are moving around, does it happen? Any additional information you can provide will be very helpful. Please let me know, so we can work together and get to the root cause!

Thanks in advance,

I only seem to notice the issue when talking to my girlfriend. She has an iPhone 4S and I have the 4. She is not Verizon (Sprint I think). It happens when I am stationary sitting on my couch and while moving in my car...and everywhere in between. It is very random. Sometimes it only happens once or twice during a 10 min call and sometime 5-10 times in a few minutes. I have confirmed it is not do to receiving notifications. One of my theories was that it had something to do with the tone/pitch of her voice because it only seems to happen when she is talking. I am not interrupted with a been when I am talking. I also thought she would pause for a fraction of a second right after a beep, like she heard it or something. She assurs me that she does not hear the beep and is not pausing as a result of a beep. I have not tested where we dont say anything and see if it beeps. That would be an interestingly funny test. Sit in silence for 15 mins while on the phone. Let me know if you need anything further.

Hi, my phone is not iphone but Droid Motorola, however I have the exact same problem. Only the other end person hears beeping once during 15 to 20 min. conversation using Skype.  I am not sure if I have the same problem during the regular calls because I don't make the regular calls long enough to find this problem. I went through the clearing the cache process per advise to find out that I had 0 bite cache.  I do NO T do multi-functions at all or I don't even touch the screen.  By the way, the key is set as mute as well.  Skype is the only one "on-going application" during the conversation.

Please advise me, thank you in advance.

Hi Boogiepepp,  Let's make sure you can use Skype uninterrupted!  While full application support is provided by the developer, I can help with some basic troubleshooting.  Does this happen everytime your Skype calls are connected for that long?  Is it just one beep or does it continue throughout the rest of the conversation?  Have you tried completely removing the application and reinstalling?  Please feel free to keep me updated on the status as I would be happy to provide all the assistance I can!

Thank You,

Hi there Dmbmobile!

Thank you for trying everything you have so far! I know I wouldn't be happy is someone was "beeping" in my ear while I was trying to talk to them.

I'm surprised that the replacement device didn't correct the issue. Do you only have one line on your account? Is anyone else in your area stating they're having similar issues?  We may need to file a ticket to our network engineers for your line of service.

Let me know!

Thanks,

I am on my mom's cell phone plan which has 5 lines but I'm the only one with an iPhone. No one else on our plan has had this problem. I've had a couple people on Facebook say they're experiencing the same thing but no one is in this area.

Thanks for trying to help me figure this out. My husband complains whenever we talk because of all the beeping.
