delete the widget. i suspect you have one of the 7 home pages dedicated to the messaging widget (not the app). if this is the case, you can delete the widget and just use the app (where you have to open it to see all of your messages). go to the home page with the message showing and long press it....then drag it down to delete it.

or are you talking about just at the very top when the message scrolls in the status bar? if that's the case then go into the settings (after opening the messaging app) and under "recieved messages" uncheck "recieved notification."

Just tried this and all notification is turned off when you do this. No vibrate or tone so you have no clue unless you look at the screen you received a text.

yeah, if you turn off the notifications, it turns off ALL notifications for text messaging. there is no option to simply turn off the top bar scroll/home page message view part... but leave on the beep for texting. that's all i want- a sound that lets me know i've recieved a text message, but no preview of it showing anywhere.

AZSALUKI is correct, there is a Privacy Mode option within the Handcent app that you can check/uncheck whether you want the message content to be shown in the notification bar. Hope this helps!
