questions about 1840 mAh battery for Droid X (on sale today from Verizon Wireless online)

About the 1840 mAh battery that Verizon is selling for the Droid X along with a (battery) cover:

Question #1: Is this the same cover that fits over the standard battery that came with the phone?

Question #2: Is this Extended Battery the same physical size as the standard battery that came with the phone?

Question #3: If the 1840 mAh "Extended Battery and Cover" is larger than the standard battery and/or standard cover that came with the phone, how much bigger is the extended battery and/or cover?

For anyone interested: Verizon is selling this 1840 mAh Extended Battery and Cover today at a discounted price - $15.00 of I think. I just ordered it along with an M175 corded headset to go along with my bluetooth headset for use in different situations.

Question #4: Now that I am going to have two different batteries, any advice on how to store the battery that I am not using? If I want to keep one battery in the phone for normal use and just carry the extra battery in case I ever need it, how often do I need to charge and/or recharge the second battery that I normally will not be using?

Question #5: Are there any downsides/negative aspects of keeping the extended, 1840 mAh battery in my phone? Could it make the battery and/or phone run hotter, for instance, or any other such negative effect?

Thanks in advance for help with any or all of these questions.

P.S. - Verizon customer service/sales could not answer these questions after over 30 minutes of them trying to find the answers.

Answer about question Question #1-3 can be answered here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTbb2f81_HI

Question #4: The best place to store a unused battery would be in a dry, non humid and cool area

Question #5: There isnt any real negitive outcomes to using the 1840 mAh battery all the time, the phone should not run any diffrent than with the original stock battery, the only way you may experiance any additional heat from battery is if you run anything that could be processor intensive that would pull a more pull on battery.

As shown in the youtube video, the extended battery and the battery cover that comes with it are indeed bigger than the standard battery and standard battery cover that comes with the phone. In addition, one of these batteries and/or covers (I cannot remember which) states right on it that one should not put the standard battery cover on/over the extended battery. However, as shown in the youtube video, the standard battery cover easily fits over the extended battery - though I imagine it is a snugger/tighter fit than the extended battery cover provides.

I will of course follow the instructions and only use the standard battery cover with the standard battery. Nonethless, I wonder what the potential harmful effects are of using the standard battery cover over/on the extended battery. Does the battery need some breathing room to dissipate heat or some such thing? I wonder what the risks are of using the standard battery cover with the extended battery. I do not plan to do this, but I am curious whether there really are harmful effects and if so what they might be. The extended battery cover does indeed sit as a slim but nonetheless raised bump on the back of the Droid X (as one might expect of any extended battery cover). The standard battery cover sits so flush, and works so well with the deeper end with the camera, that I wonder whether the extended battery cover will allow more dust/lint into the battery/SD card compartment, how the phone overall will feel in hands when using the phone with the bumpy, non-flush extended battery cover, etc. In any case, any speculations about the potential harmful effects asked about above?

That must have been a 1-day sale, as I looked this morning and the battery is back to $49.99 w/cover.

Yesterday there was an advertisement on the Verizon Wireless website about the sale on batteries. In addition, the sale price adjusted itself automatically after you added a battery to your cart. However, I recall it said that the promo code for this sale was BAT30, I think. You could try adding another battery to another cart and entering that promo code to see if it works. If it does, maybe there is time to cancel your earlier order and let the one with the promo code go through.

I just searched through the Verizon Wireless Forum Terms of Service and could not find anything about no promo or coupon code postings. If I somehow missed something, please let me know and I will edit it out of this post accordingly.

With that promo code, the battery isn't $15.  You save $15, so the cost is $34.99.  Just an FYI for anyone using promo code BAT30.

in my original post, you can see my typo - "a discounted price - $15.00 of I think." Of course, I meant to type, "... $15.00 of[f] I think". I do not think Verizon would ever sell a brand new battery that costs $50 for $15.00. In any case, sorry for my typo. Just to be clear, my words "$15.00 of" should read "$15.00 off". Again, sorry for the typo. Perhaps I will edit the post.

Did you get the discounted price through my postings/replies? So many people on this forum have helpped me with various things, it would be nice to know if I was able to help someone else with something. In any case, happy you got a good deal on your order.

Now when I click on accessories and go to batteries, the extended battery shows "out of stock".

Apparently they can keep almost nothing Droid X in stock.

Oh well, I can wait.

The Droid X is the best phone I have ever had.  Still learning about Android 2.1.  Waiting patiently for Android 2.2.

Got mine for $28 too. Corporate users get an additional 25% off. For your old battery, get it down to about 40% and then store it in the fridge. That's the best way to store Li-ion batteries.
