screen locks and slow to unlock

Just got the phone and, the phone gets locked up when not in use for awhile - sometimes even when it HAS been in use currently.  A call can come in and the phone is locked and I can't answer the call.  I think I've tried just about every possible setting and can't find anything.

Also happens regardless of a call coming in.  If I just want to get on the phone or see a text or whatever, the screen can be locked.  I try to slide the lock over and it won't go over.  I have to wait for the screen to go dark, then press the home key to turn it on again and THEN I can get in.  Why's this and how can I change it?

Thanks for all the feedback.  This seems to be an intermittent issue with the Droid X.  The next step I would suggest would be to do a master reset on the device.  The following steps will guide you in completing this process.

From the main screen> Touch menu tab> Touch Settings> Touch Privacy> Touch Factory Data reset> Touch Reset Phone> Touch Erase Everything

If the issue still persists either please repost or PM me directly and we can take alternate measures to resolve your issue.

Thank you.

The screen lock can be set as short as 15 seconds to 15 minutes to never. This setting is found in "settings"/"display"/"screen timeout". And when it's locked and you get a call, you simply SLIDE the "answer" button over to the right just as if you are unlocking the screen.

I've never heard of this issue. When the screen is locked, you should be able to slide the bar over to unlock the screen. And you don't have to wait for the screen to go dark, for whatever reason you need to. Just press the "power" button on the top of the phone to lock the phone (a quick press, not a long press, which will power down the phone). I do this frequently when I put the phone in my pocket or holster.

If these ideas don't help resolve your issues, check back and let's see if we can figure something else.

I have experienced similar problems on my Droid X.  After not using the phone for a while (approx. 10 mins or longer), I often experience two different, but possibly related issues.

  • When I go to use the phone, I'll press either the Home button or the Power button..... the screen will light up with the lockscreen, similar to this photo (DX Lockscreen).  When I swipe the unlock button, nothing happens.  The only solution I've found is to press the Power button to turn off the screen, then press it again to turn it on, and then the Unlock swipe will work.

  • When I receive an inbound call, the green (answer) and red (ignore) swipe buttons appear but are completely non-responsive.  I've tried long pressing them with no luck.   I downloaded the app Easy Answer Button, but it still does the same thing.

FYI:  I was using Dx Top Lite as a replacement  Home Screen, and after reading some posts, tried the paid version, but that didn't help.  I tried unistalling it, and that also did not help; so, I don't think that is what's causing the problem, but it could perhaps be contributing to it.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Just to clarify, that will delete basically all data and Apps that are stored on the phone right?  If I go to "Manage Applications" and Move all Apps (that will allow it) to the SD Card, will that preserve them and will they automatically show up after the reset, or will I have to reinstall them?

Thank you so much for your assistance.

P.S.:  Perhaps I should go back to my local store again.  (It's the closest store to the Regional HQ in Little Rock.)   Funny story:  I went into that store on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, trying to find a solution for syncing Outlook (Contacts, Calendar, To Do List, etc.) with Android.  I had previously used WirelessSync which worked great, but was discontinued last year.  We do not have Exchange Server, and apparently, there isn't anything that can wirelessly sync (not USB or Bluetooth) all of that right down to your PC box.   Anyway.....so I was explaining all of this to one of the store associates and started noticing this guy in semi-casual attire who seemed to be ease dropping on our conversation.   Longer story short.... it turned out he was Verizon Wireless regional president Steve Smith just hanging out in the store.  Next thing you know he has the associate call some tech guy who I guess is most familiar with this seemingly obscure issue.  Bottom line is I was very impressed with 1) the fact the the Regional President was hanging out in a retail store on Saturday and 2) that he took such a personal interest in my problem.  Still haven't found a comprehensive solution, but he certainly tried.

You can also use a widget called "screen mode widget" which allows you to easily toggle between  awake stay (no unlock slider) sleep auto (unlock slider) and screen stay (screen never times out)
