sd chip

i am trying to figure out how to put pics and music from my computer onto the sd chip of the phone.  don't know how to put it on so the phone will recognize them...  can someone please help?

There are several ways to do this ... 

- Use VCAST Media Manager. You have to download and install/configure on your PC. Some have had good luck with this, others not so much.

- Use Motorola Media Manager. Again, must be downloaded & installed/configured on your PC ...  again, some problems, some not.

- Just hook up your phone via the USB Cable - requires you to have installed the Motorola Device driver for the phone. Once you do that, you will have direct access to all the folders on your SD Card. You then just drag & drop files into the appropriate folders.

Just got a Droid X, and I am having this same problem, and someone told me that it was the drivers.  How do I get the driver for the phone?  My phone does not have a CD with it.  Can I download the driver from somewhere?

The Droid X has a virtual drive on it that stores that default drvers for your device and the MotConnect application, when you plug in your device  you should see a Motorola CD drive under Computer area on your pc and usually it auto runs unless this feature is disables, if auto run is disabled just right click on the Motoeola CD drive and select run and it should install the required drivers and software.  Bur if you would like a more detailed installation instruction and the updated drivers please read over the post I placed at http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-X-by-Motorola/USB-Connection-Issue/td-p/294666/page/2 and this will give you a more detailed walk through.

Hi Wildman,

Thanks for that info - that is good to know, and pretty neat.  Let me clarify a bit more because I realized that I didn't give all the info.  I have XP Home Edition at home and when I plug in the phone via the USB it tries to connect, but then I get the message that it didn't pass Windows logo test somethingorother and not to use it because it could mess up my computer "now or in the future".  So it never shows up on my computer as a drive.  I did manage once to get to the set up wizard and had it search for the device, but it couldn't find it, and then it gave me that message again.  I noticed that even when I had the device plugged in to the port, it didn't even recharge.  It just sat there.  So, I wasn't sure what to do.  Any idea how to make my home compy like my phone?

Interesting note:  it *does* show up on my work computer as you describe, however, I cannot download anything on my work computer. (

When it told you to not use it, did you tell it not to?  If so, that is your problem.  Go into Device Manager (Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager) and look for  yellow triangle with an exclamation mark.  If it exists (and says something about Motorola) then highlight it, right mouse click and choose delete.  Then highlight the top of the list (should look like a computer) and right mouse click and rescan for changes.  If that prompt pops up again, tell it to ignore and to install the drivers.

I want you to know that my problems were completely solved by the great information you gave.  I went to that link you provided and printed out the pages.  When I finally had time to sit down and go thru the instructions, they were very easy to understand & follow.  And none to soon - as it turned out this past Friday I had to get files from my email account (yahoo was dead in the water on my home compy for some reason), download them to my phone, copy them to my computer to format for an important class the next day.  Had it not been for your help, I would have been sunk.  So I thank you, thank you, thank you!  Keep doing what ya do.  (I've been telling everyone I know about how helpful & knowledgeable "Wildman" is on the Verizon community forum.)

imoh, vcast is worthless unless you're buying ringtones/music from verizon, same with trying to sync music on computer to phone.

use the charging cable into the laptop usb and from within windows media player, "copy to cd or device", one album at a time.

i found the music needed to be cataloged as to album/artist/song title in windows media player to xfer into the phone to show artist/album/songs.

if you don't put a song title, you'll see a lot of track 1, 2 3, etc.

in my computer or windows explorer/my choice, you'll see the motorola device  probably as "e" and the sd chip as "f".

hilite "f"/file "new" and create "my music'. i also created my pics.

pics can be drag/dropped from my documents/my pictures to the new folder "my pics" on the sd chip.

i'm using xphome and no drivers were required from a cd.

Connect cable and set as Mass Storage and copy all files to SD Card, then everything will show up in library when files are scanned.

If you have a 64 bit computer, forget the Media Manager. Also, once you hook your phone to your computer, don't try to find things on the SD card. When hooked up, it becomes unavailable. However, open up "My Computer" on your computer. Here you will see a new disk letter, let us call it F:/. This is your phone, acting like a new drive. Open this up File>Phone files>dcim; here you will find your photos. Just drag whatever photos you want to the file on your computer where you keep your photos. For example f:/Picture one drag to c:/my photos/picture one. Music is usually at the very bottom of the file manager. You can do the same thing here, just drag the music from here to the file on your computer where you store your music. Just remember, all this work is done only on your computer, your cell phone, as a cell phone, does not enter into it. It is now a new letter on your computer.
