As I haven't yet received my Droid X, I can only guess.

You may be able to download it from the Market, if it's free.  Since the game may come with the phone when you first get it, it wouldn't make sense to charge people for it on the Market.

The other option is....(and this is last resort).....restore the phone to default settings.  I'm not sure if this will bring Need For Speed back,  so try the other option first.   Restoring to default settings would wipe out any customizations you have made, and possibly delete apps that you downloaded, after receiving your phone.

Hopefully, someone who is a bit more knowledgeable about this, or possibly had the same experience, will post soon with a resolution.

I had planned on installing the full version and I thought I could just uninstall demo and then download the full version, the upgrade did not have a option to use my paypal with my security key

Ahhh....so Need For Speed is a demo then ?

Ok...well in that case....the full version WOULD require some cash.   If you just wanted to get the demo back on your Droid, I recommend one of two things:

1.  Go to a Verizon store where they have technicians in the back.  One of them may know how to get that demo back.  It could be as simple as copying the application from one Droid X to another, since it's only a demo.   (if that's possible)

2.  Call Verizon Customer Service.  They may be able to transfer you to a technician, or obtain the necessary information that you need to restore the demo.

I actually just searched the internet, trying to find a solution for you.  I got good news and bad news.   The good news is....you can get the Need For Speed demo back on there.   The bad news is.......you gotta do something with the phone that you aren't supposed to do....in order to get the demo back on there.   I'm not going to elaborate on this, as Verizon hammered me in these forums when I tried to touch on it previously in a different thread.

Hopefully one of the Verizon techs at the store can help you.

Cheers !

BEWARE! Need for Speed that comes on the DX is a subscription game. I just got nailed for $9.99 for that app. All I did was play it one time. READ THE DISCLAIMERS!

To let you know, I have done the Hard Reset with my Droid X and the Need for Speed Demo was there after the Hard Reset.  But, the Hard Reset will cause a loss of all user data.

Glad to hear the demo is  back for you.  Did you see the other post above ?  Play the game once and you get nailed for $10 for a subscription ???  WOW.  Thanks for that info.  That's one game I won't be playing on my X when it comes.  I think I'll uninstall that sucker myself.

As for the Hard Reset, yes indeed...your user settings and data ARE lost because you are returning the phone to the manufacturer default settings....just like it was when you first received it.   It's probably the easiest way to return pre-loaded apps, that were uninstalled, to your phone....... but you sacrifice your data, and must put everything back on there.

Just for others wanting the Need For Speed app....there is an app in the market called Raging Thunder for just $3.99. I tried out the Lite version which is free. It's pretty good game. Plus it is free if you want the Lite version.

well I found out how to fix it i used file explorer, the original installed app was in the preinstall folder I copied it to my SD card and renamed it, its actually called NFSShift.apk I was able to reinstall and it works fine just like it did when I took the phone out of the box. Now I can actually buy the full Need for speed I could not with the app missing.
