Yes, I've gotten that same problem to. I'll put it down for two minutes,
thinking it's on sleep mode, and when I try to turn it on again, it won't
turn on. I've had to hold the power button for 5 seconds, wait for the
DROOOIID and then it's fine. I've had this phone for less that a week,
and only installed four apps, and I'm getting these problems. Oh, and
worst case scenario was after class, I was showing my phone to classmates
and it wouldn't turn on AT ALL. I had to remove the battery and put it back in
(it was fully charged and I still haven't dropped or crushed it yet).

mine does the same thing. they put me through a hard reset first, that didnt help. they put me in a new droid 2, that didnt help. my phone shuts off on its own at least once a day. i also get calls and hear them ring, but my phone will be blacked out and locked, and i cant answer. so i have to hold the power button until it resets. i also cant play mp3s, youtube videos, any media files unless i turn the phone off, take out battery, and reset phone manually.

So far I have had 3 Droid Globals , all with distinct and annoying problems. First one I could not hear people they could not hear me.Second one would not dowload updates. Third one shuts itself off and I can not use it. They are sending me another.....I have done all the factory resets. I even opened up a new google account incase my first google account was corrupt. Taking the battery out and placing it back in was a temporary fix.... They will not send me another kind of Droid this is frustrating

have you checked your security settings?settings>location &security>security lock timer
have you checked your end call button settings? settings>accessibility settings>power button
have you checked your screen timeout? settings>display settings>screen timeout
have you checked to see if your phone needs updates? settings>scroll down to about phone>system updates.
have you tried clearing your cache? as far as clearing cache its a component that improves performance by transparently storing data. i have a history eraser to delete everything at once for me thus clearing up room and keeping phone from clogging up and lagging, etc. its a free app and easy to use. to download it on your phone go to market>apps>search>history eraser>HistoryEraser DUMAPIC (should be the first one listed)>tap on it>download>now once its downloaded open it and tap bomb>depending on how much you use the web browser, call people, search market histories, use navigation and maps, etc. is how often you need to clear your data. i do so about every two hours. you could also try hard resetting your phone. this would erase everything to the way you when you first got your phone out of the store so i t recommend it as a last resort choice. there is a website posted below with the information on how to quickly and easily do this.

My phone doing the same thing right off the shelf...i tried returning it but the problem is I travel for work and left the day after getting the phone. Even though the store i bought it from is an "Authorized Verizon Dealer" they will not give me a new phone unless I return it within 14 days. Called customer service and they said they could replace it with a refurbished phone but thats it. So I paid for a new phone and am going to have to settle for a refurbished phone for twice the price. Have already tried taking it to a store and wiping out the system and starting from scratch. The phone shut off again before I got 10 minutes down the street. I guess it's buyer beware with the phone companies.

I should clarify the 14 day return policy means the phone must be returned from the store you purchased it from. If I would have been told that upfront, I would have never purchased the phone knowing that I travel for work.

Ditto here! My phone sometimes shuts off mid-conversation and other times when it is just sitting on the table next to me...sometimes it will even turn itself back on! I took it to Verizon (not the "authorized dealer", but the main store in our area)...they uploaded task killer. That didn't change a thing except to help me battery life a bit. My screen will also go black and i can't touch a thing on it...can't even get the power button to shut off/on. I have taken the battery out numerous times to restart it (what a pain when you have a protector on the phone too). Sometimes the screen will just freeze. I am sooo frustrated with this phone and hate to think I will have to "fight" to get it replaced or something changed. I have always loved verizon, the service my past 4 phones...this was a two year and new phone...paid for it though too, just got the discount. I have tried deleting most of the programs (i only loaded maybe two or three). NOTHING HAS WORKED. I am very tempted to SPLURGE and buy an iphone or some other phone, if i can't get this to repair itself. If this were to happen in an emergency situation (and i travel alot!) that would be a real issue.

I have had 3 Droid 2 Global so far each and every one has not worked properly. They are sending me another. The one I have now shuts itself off. The one before would not download updates. The one before you could not hear the person calling or I could not hear them. Seems when I take the battery is taken out and put back in is a quick temporary fix. I have even set up another google account to make sure my first account was not corrupt. I have done all the factory resets and still problems. Wonder what the "new" Driod will bring me hopefully it will work

Hello,
My wife has the Droid 2, this turning itself off is a constant problem with the droid 2s. She has exchanged her phone 3 times at verizon wireless. Everytime she brings her phone back, they state they have never heard about this with the droid 2s, when it is all over their own forums on verizonwireless.com. This phone is completely garbage, at least now google will own motorola, because motorola makes #%^$& phones. I hope google can implement a better design and engineering.
At some point I wish verizon at times did whats right by the customers and not whats good for their pocketbook. We have 2 small children and shes spent at least a total 7-10 hours between driving back and forth and waiting at verizion complied through all the times her phone has stopped working.
we spend close to 200$/month on our verizon bills.... just doesnt seem right.....
Frustrated User!

Hi Gidevjefan:
With so many phones resetting, I would really look at common denominators between phones. Perhaps it is a bad battery. Has the battery been replaced? If there were any common applications between devices, you may want to look into removing them. Most users of Android can figure out if a problematic application exists by master resetting the device and see if the problem is resolved with no applications loaded from the Market. If the issue is fixed by a master reset, you have your answer. If the issues persists after the master reset, you can easily determine that it is a hardware issue. If the battery hasn't been replaced, I'd start there since you've already tried replacing the handset.
It could also be a software-related issue. Have you received the new update for Gingerbread on the device? (Link to software update instructions).
A rare but possible issue is a corrupt SD card. Let's say some data is corrupt on your SD card, and every time that your phone tries to access the corrupt data, it resets. It's a common denominator between all phones that you've had along with the SD card. I would reformat your memory card after first backing up pics, photos, and music to a PC.
We really do have to explore all options before we toss our hands in the air and say it's a bad phone. There are so many variables to random resets and so many malicious things that people can do with their phones that we explore all options to resolve the issue. I hope this helps in some way. Please feel free to post your results.
Regards,
