traveling overseas, can I use Wi-fi only?

Question

Traveling to London from the US, with a US Motorola Droid.  Is it possible to connect to wi-fi, without incurring a ton of extra charges?

Just turn on the phone's airplane mode and then turn back on wifi only when you want to check for a available connection. The airplane mode will prevent any accidental cell charges and save your battery since the phone wouldn't be searching for a signal.
