Traveling to London from the US, with a US Motorola Droid. Is it possible to connect to wi-fi, without incurring a ton of extra charges?

Just turn on the phone's airplane mode and then turn back on wifi only when you want to check for a available connection. The airplane mode will prevent any accidental cell charges and save your battery since the phone wouldn't be searching for a signal.

Yeah why not? VzW doesn't have anything to do with the wifi network you'd be connecting to, AND there's no CDMA service in europe so it's not like you'd have a cell network to accidentally connect to anyway. Not possible to incur charges on your cell bill using your droid on wifi in europe, much to the chagrin of VzW, I'm sure.
