My droid bionic went through an update this morning and right after it restarted this message keeps poping up. I tried to restart it and take the battery out but the message is still showing up. What should I do to make it work again?
i have the same problem. need help . anyone?
Try a system cache clear:
Power down phone
Hold volume up/down & power simultaneously until you see the Boot Mode Selection Menu
Use volume down to navigate to 'Recovery', use volume up to select
Should see screen with triangle and exclamation point next to an Android
Press volume up/down simultaneously to go into system recovery
Use volume rocker to navigate to 'wipe cache' and use power button to select
Once finished, use volume rocker to navigate to 'reboot system now' and use power button to select
Having same problem and tried that. Didn't fix the problem. Once the phone rebooted the same pop up came up repeatedly. Is there a way to drop the update?
No, I'm afraid you can't uninstall the update. You could try running the phone in safe mode, there may be an app that isn't playing nice with Jelly Bean. You may end up having to do a factory reset (if so, back everything up first 'cause you'll lose your data).
Called Verizon about the exact same problem. They knew nothing. Suggested Factory reset.
Am backing up data now. Will advise.
Same thing happening. Phone broken now. Why??????
Unfortunately, it sounds like this phone is fried. Com.Android.Phone, I believe is one of the main file names for the operating system itself. Without it, the phone ceases to function. Were you running any custom software on the phone prior to the update? Short of replacing the phone, I don't know that this can be resolved.
I certainly hope my phone isn't fried. I'm running no custom software, and don't even have that many apps - certainly nothing very exciting. I too received this message this morning after my update.
Same here. Awesome! Thanks Android! And I board a flight later today...grand!
I had the same issue as everyone else here. I backed up my contacts to my SD card, then removed the SD card and performed a factory reset (via the settings menu). After reboot I no longer got the "com.android.phone has stopped" message and am getting 4G and wireless again. Android version is still 4.1.2. After going thru all the set-up steps, I updated all the apps still on the phone, and reinserted my SD card. I am reinstalling all the apps that didn't survive the factory reset and so far so good. No issues yet.
This is what worked for me. If I run into any apps that cause problems I will post about them here. Good Luck to you all.
I'm in the same position. No custom code, not many apps. Cache wipe did not help.
just did this for one of my customers, factory reset was the only way to get it to go back to normal.
Updated my DROID Bionic last night, and now getting the same error. Cannot connect to the Verizon mobile network. Please let me know if anyone finds anything that works! Thanks!
If a system cache clear doesn't work, then back everything up and do a factory reset (I'd remove the SD card first to be on the safe side).
My phone updated this morning and it doesn't work at all. It boots but any activity stops the process. Can't connect. Can't call. Can't do anything.
I backed up all my data and removed the SD card then performed a factory reset. I reinstalled all my apps and everything seems to be working so far...
apparently this is a known issue now with motorola. i think they're working on it but hard to say if they'll figure out a fix or workaround to it soon. tried clearing the cache, which unfortunately didn't work. i'm in process of backing everything up but that stupid error keeps popping up and delaying it.
Workaround for the stupid error... Put the phone into airplane mode. It stops the popups.
hrm i didn't think of that. i think another workaround for it might be a hammer. might not solve issues but would be a little bit satisfying. thanks though, that will help.
Tiz interesting that so many people are having problems with the JB update. So what the hell was Verizon thinking when they released UNTESTED updates that screwed up our phones?
I can't even get into the recovery mode (2nd up/down press) to clean the system cache!
Tried airplane mode. Still got pop-up. Couldn’t make a call in airplane mode anyway and still don’t have a data connection. At least trying airplane mode allowed me to figure that if I’m quick I can sneak a call in by selecting a recent call and don’t click ok the process stopped message, which stops the call. Can’t dial a number though.
dragonkellman's method worked for me last night. Clearing cache did not. backed up everything to SD card, did factory reset. Downloading the old settings screwed it up again, so had to do new factory reset. Only downloaded contacts, SMS, and phone logs. It's finally working now. Giant pain in the *!#.
I have a Bionic and so does my mom, I updated mine about 5 hours ago and had no problems, updated hers about an hour ago and got the error. I did the cache clear and that didn't help, I've removed the batter, the SD card, and the SIM card and that did nothing. The only real differences I can think of between hers and mine other than a few random apps are I had all my apps up to date as of this morning before my phone took the update and hers weren't. The only 2 apps I can think of that would make any sort of difference would be Facebook since it tweaks out if it's force stopped, and the Play store itself. My phone received the Play store update a few days ago, hers is still using the old play store app. I am trying to update the Play store app but I cannot find a way to make that happen. I'm wondering if that maybe has something to do with it?
I hadn't updated my Play Store app before I took the update; it updated after JB was installed. I've had no issues.
I'd suggest backing everything up, removing the SD card to be on the safe side, and factory resetting your Mom's phone.
Sounds like it's literally a hit and miss situation. I've tried everything I can think of and no luck. Starting the factory reset now :smileysad:
Factory reset resolved issue completely. Bitter sweet justice lol
Guess Factory Reset it is. Thanks for the help everyone.
Yep my phone is inoperable too same message after update
I had the same annoying problem after updating. Several hard resets and clearing the cache did not work. After the factory reset my phone is finally useable again. I am not happy that an update caused this much trouble.
Thanks dragon! That workkd.....my record for folks is to :
1 sync your contacts with Google account OK Verizon backup assistant
2 download/upload your pics and music if necessary
3. Do factory reset , its in settings/privacy
4. After reset re link your Google account' then Verizon backup assissant
5. Apps not automatically added to your phone will be available in my apps section of Google play store
I get the same message. I went to Verizon store and they are stumped. They contacted top tech people and they were supposed to have it fixed today. Still can't call, no bars or network....sometimes have 1X. I'm ready to throw it in the toilet. Its' been fine, until I ran an update a couple of days ago. I have no working phone and all my contacts, etc.. I've heard nothing from Verizon today. They said they would call me when the figured out what the problem was. Geez! They tried all kinds of things in the store.
I am having the same error. I updated this morning and got the error immediately. My phone basically doesn't work. Very frustrating. I guess I will have to do a factory reset *sigh*.
Clearing the system cache didn't work for me either. Verizon and Motorola, this is not cool. Factory reseting now...
To Ashley and other Bionic Owners:
One of Many things i always suggest or suggested in the past was have a Fully charged battery, A very good Connection to either the Network or if you have Wi-Fi as these updates are Hefty and requires the phone to undertake allot of data so it's wise to either Factory Reset before the Update or After Doing the Update and a clearing of the System Cache before the F.R, doesn't hurt Either).
Another thing tell your friends and your family you need an Hour of Space to let your phone Take the update as it States in the instructions with any update you wont be able to make or Take Calls but even still give the phone the space it needs to Do the update.!
Before you pick up your phone and say O that stuff is Cool let the Phone Fully take the Download & update other stuff there after it also needs time to Update any apps that you have in your phone from the previous OS). My Maxx did this when it updated to ICS and Jelly Bean And like Jim with his Maxx i've had just very Minor to NO issues at all with my Maxx.
And sometimes it may Take 1 or 2 F.R.'s to straighten things out on the Phone if some of your Apps are not Compatible with Jelly Bean they won't Play Nice with it.. And on my Maxx as for the Connection i have Mine set on LTE / CDMA instead of Global this may work better if you have that option to Change you Might try see how that works).
Hopefully things will straighten out for ya one's having these issues give my suggestions a try if ya already have well hang there you'll get it work-in Soon.! b
Why isn't someone from Verizon addressing this issue?
The best way if you haven't is to Contact Customer Service all we can do give advice, Just like Forums for flashlights, Scanners, or for hobbies). And from there you just have to Try and see if it Works..
The best way is just to backup and factory reset. It doesn’t take long and my backups seemed fairly easy to restore.
I think my phone is actually working better. It’s like reformatting your hard drive and reinstalling the os and apps. But this was easier since it wasn’t like reinstalling a windows OS. I lost stuff but nothing I can’t live without.
Think of it as spring cleaning.
Yup for sure a like a clean pipe flows the water faster than that of a Dirty one b
yes, i am having same prblem
To all those having this problem....the fastest and easiest is the factory reset. Yes it's a pain to have to re-install things but the phone works SO MUCH BETTER on Jellybean. I had few problems with the Bionic, but going from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich finally to Jellybean OMG what a difference!! I had the same error message and I was pi$$ed to say the least! I didn't waste my time with Verizon but called Motorola directly.( I had my fill with a previous carrier not being able to help with my phone and when sent back to Motorola had a perfect phone in just a few days with a programming repair! Now I deal with the manufacturer straight off. ) That was one of the two suggestions offered, so I figured the re-set would be the fastest one to try although app re-install is a pain. Less so if you go to the playstore on line and send to your phone that way. LOVE LOVE LOVE this phone now!!!
