The NE2 discount ranges from $30 to $100 depending on when you signed your contract and what your price plan is. I know I gave up my NE2 of $100 to get a new phone when it got to the point of either doing that or smashing the phone I had due to complications, so it is totally dependent on whether you have the ability to wait 
Yeah, the longer you hold out. The bigger the discount/deal will be. I waited until the month before my contract expired. I was just antsy and wanted to own my 1st smart phone. I had money saved up (well, what was left of my college graduation money) to buy it. I love it. I'll be behind everyone when the 4G stuff comes out though.
