Hi Scootie,
Are you uploading videos to Youtube? Or to your computer? Uploading videos to Youtube must be done using Wifi. You can turn on Wifi by following these steps on your Droid X.
Press Menu
Press Settings
Press Wireless & Networks
Make sure Wifi is checked
Press Wi-fi Settings
Make sure Open Network is checked
You can also connect the device to a USB Cord and your computer. Then, the file can be transferred to your PC and saved in your computer files.

No - it records the way it does by the firmware. You COULD copy the video to your PC and convert it there - but that is a very tedious process from my experieince. Where are you trying to upload to that it doesn't recognize the format? Have you tried uploading to YOUTUBE? It works very well ...

If I remember correctly, either 3gp or 3g2 can be changed to mp4 and still play with no problems.

Just curious why you're going through all this just to put it back on yor phone? Does it not properly play for you on your hone or something?
