when I a on my phone handheld or bluetooth it decides to go to speaker on its own. what would cause this?

Is there a setting I need to change so it does not do that?

The settings for Bluetooth are pretty straightforward. Have you check the touchless control on the device? Here's a link for more details http://tiny.cc/w9xbex. Perhaps trying to re-pair it can help with the issue.
