How did you save your ringtones? How did you set them for use? It's hard to say what's going sometimes without more details.

You probally saved it by opening file and select use as ringetone, best wau for me has been to save file in SD Card / Media / Audio / Ringtone because this is one of the default locations the phone looks for ringtones. Place them there and they will show in rungtone defalt app under Settings / Sounds

i just saved it again and it was saved to the sd card but eliminated as a ringtone in settings/sounds/ringtone when i rebooted. i re-saved again to sd card but i'm not sure how to access the sd card to set it as ringtone because it's saved in "music" where i select it as the ringtone i want.
i'm savvy enough to follow the path but just don't know how to get to the sd card to follow the path to set it as ringtone.
thanks

You can get to the SD card by using the "Files" app on your phone. Open that app and then select "Phone files" and that will display your SD card.
Just copy the file you want to use in Music and paste it into a new folder on your SD card called "ringtones" (you can copy it by pressing and holding on the file). Then when you go your phone's settings, you can select it as a ringtone.

I was assuming you had a folder on your SD card named "Music". Am I wrong? Well, where ever your audio file is currently saved - go to it. When you see it on the screen, touch and hold that file and a menu will pop up. From that menu you can select copy, then you navigate to which ever folder you want (in this case a folder you make named "ringtones") and there will be a "Paste here" button at the bottom of the screen you can use to paste it in that folder.

i do and i created another called "my pics' but when i hold down on the rt in music i don't see an option to "copy' but play, add to playlist use as rt, delete, search and can't scroll up/down, nothing else there.
so i need to create the folder "ringtones" on the sd card?
update:
i created "my ringtones" on the phone and still don't see an option to copy when i hold down on the rt in the music folder.

1st thing you need to convert files to MP3 because ACC isnt supported, there is a number of free apps on web for this and then save it to SD Card / Media / Audio / Ringtones and if folders are not present just create them and your issue should be resolved because this way the ringers will show under the stock ringer option at Settings/Sounds.

Glad to here you got it working... Just a heads up, Windows Media Player also can convert to MP3 also under settings.. One more thing, you can save you some steps by plugging phone in and set to Mass Storage and place file where you want without emailing yourself.
