The VMS 4100 was the first replacement for the 1100 series. The VMS box needed coax from a splitter connected to the router to operate correctly, and was capable of having IPC satellite boxes using WiFi. The 4100ATV is a completely different system that is based on streaming . The ATV box has to connect to the network either by coax or ethernet, the satellite boxes are WiFi. The interface is very much like a Roku or other streaming device, not like classic cable like the 4100. Since the 4100 is older tech and has had time to work out most of its bugs, it is actually less problematic than the ATV.
