Fiostv+ remote not Pairing with TV "Brand not in Database"

I recently just bought a new TV (Sansui S55VOUG ) and when I try to pair the fiostv+ remote with the TV to control the volume using both auto and manual I get a "Brand not in Database" message. I've unpaired/repaired/reset both the verizon STB and TV and can not get it to connect.

How can I resolve this?

Thanks again Clem21 for all the help so far

Try unpairing it again and redoing the setup. If that doesn't work, ull the batteries for at least 1 hr and try again. Also try removing the device from google home app and relink to it.

I haven't heard the name Sansui for years. There is the possibility that the codes used by the manufacturer are the same as ones used by another manufacturer...say Samsung, Pioneer, Sony...etc.

My thought is to see if Sansui televisions are manufactured by another brand and, if so, try the codes of that brand. šŸ¤”

thanks for the response, I tried and none of these worked, maybe it is related to what clem21 said about bluetooth

Clem is an expert, so I'd go with his suggestions. So the code Clem suggested can't be entered into the Verizon remote? šŸ¤”

Well I say it can't in the sense that from the fiostv+ settings the only options I see to connect a remote are:

1. Automatic

Automatic just immediately says Brand not in Database

2. Manual

Manual makes me select the brand, then hold the mute button on the Fios remote which eventually doesn't connect and says Brand not found.

I do not see or know how to enter a code to connect I guess is the more correct statement

The remote code for Sansui was 332. Give that a shot. You could also try: 0490, 1061,3031, 3048, 3090, 3182, 3198, 3204. You might also try using Haier as the manufacturer.

After reading info on that TV, it seems the remote is connected to the TV with blutooth, not IR. I don't think the Fios remote will connect to anything besides the Fios box with blutooth, only IR. So you have to make sure CEC is enabled in the TV and then the Fios box should be able to control the TV. You could also try an IR port blaster hooked up to the TV.

Hi, thanks for the response.

I am not able to manually enter codes on the TV I tried looking for it and found nowhere to enter numbers. I also tried Haier with no success either.

I then turned on HDMI CEC on the TV and the volume still only controls the device from verizon not the TV. Maybe you are on to something with it not being able to pair since it is bluetooth.

Do you have any idea if this is something Verizon could address or am I out of luck and need to buy extra stuff to use their remote?

Sorry about the codes, I didn't know the TV was BT only.

You need to set the volume on the Fios box to fixed. It should then control the volume from the TV through CEC. Since the Fios remote uses IR to control devices other than the Fios box, the codes won't work with your TV . After reading the manual for your TV I see the remote for it is BT only. If CEC won't control your TV you will have to get an IR to BT adapter, or look for an IR control jack on the back of the TV.  I didn't see a picture of the back of the TV in the manual.

Above and beyond support. Thank you for the help on narrowing it down. I will look around in the fios box to set volume to fixed.

thanks again

I tried finding a way to set the volume to fixed, but I cannot find it. I even found older posts by you describing some sound options to try but they are not available on this model I guess..

I tried using the google assistant as well to set the volume to fixed but all it did was max the volume on the little verizon box.

Look in the android settings >Advanced Settings>Configure Fios TV+Remote

Also, did you try pairing your TV remote to the Fios box? Just a thought.......

ha, yes, I have and it works but the main issue I have is the Sansui remote does not have a "last" channel button so not able to quickly to go back to a previous channel.

So it came down to trying to set a button to do the "last" channel function on the Sansui remote which i couldn't figure out OR getting the Verizon remote to control the TV volume which I also couldn't figure out.

I'll have to do better research next time on how the cable box/TV interacts

I know when programming the older remotes it asked if you had an audio device, does it still do that with the Fios+ boxes?

I was just looking at the programming instructions again for the Fios+ remote and this stuck out:

:Select Auto or manually program your remote. (Note:  Selecting Auto will initiate an attempt to program via an HDMI connection for your TV make and model.

If you didn't have CEC enabled on the TV the first time you tried, the setup wouldn't have been able to find the TV. So try this to unpair, then try the auto paring option again:

  • First, you'll need to unpair your old remote. On the Fios TV+, press and hold the button on top of the device for 15 seconds.
  • You will see an on-screen menu.  Press the button on the top of your device  to navigate to the ā€œUnpair remoteā€ menu option.
  • Once on the ā€œunpair remoteā€ item, press and hold for 3 seconds.
  • Once the old remote is successfully unpaired, you will be prompted on-screen to pair your new remote.

Tried this, remote still does not work with the TV volume.

A new problem now though in unpairing the remote my google assistant will not work anymore. the microphone on the remote is not catching anything I say.

I've gone through the android settings on the verizon box, google assistant and enabled it, when I press the button the little bar on the bottom shows up but doesn't catch anything I say into it anymore.

Any idea on how I can get that back? I checked the FAQs but didn't see one there
