Motion Blurry

Hi. My Fios Motorola set-top boxes were just replaced with Fios One (small) set-top boxes. While the picture quality is enhanced, I get motion blurring when watching sports on most of the channels. The worst occurs on FOX and ESPN channels (all of them). ABC, NBC and CBS are fine except when they are are supporting another broadcaster like ABC does with ESPN. I have two relatively new OLED TVs (Samsung and LG). I have made adjustments that have improved the situation a little. Note that the motion blurring only occurs during live action and not during slow motion replays.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you got the Fios one 4100 series boxes try changing the video output on the boxes to 1080:
Main Menu > Settings > Audio & Video > Video Settings>Video Format
The Fios box may be upscaling the programming to 4K and isn't as good as your TV at it.

Hi. Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, it does not help me. Since posting, I found out that I have a 4100ATV series box. This series does not have the Settings path that you provided. Can you provide another solution?

Not sure but if you go to the settings gear, then to Android TV settings>Device Preferences>Display and sound, There may be something there to set the resolution. Also might be in Android TV settings>Advanced settings. I don't have an ATV box, so I'm not able to see all the menu options. Also make sure HDR is off in the menu options.

Again, thanks for your suggestions. Under Android TV settings>Device Preferences>Display and sound, there is only one display choice which is to turn the gaming mode on/off. The advanced settings is under the sound settings so it does not affect the display.
I spent about an hour with Verizon Tech Support. It took them a while to realize that I had the ATV version. Their conclusion was that I do not have the ability to see or change the video settings. They also said that my video settings were correct. They concluded that I did not have a problem which of course I clearly do.
I am not sure what alternatives that I have other than getting a Verizon technician to visit during a time when many football or basketball games are being broadcasted so that the can see for themselves.

The other issue may be Fox and ESPN still airing sports in 720P instead of 1080I. That means a lot of interpolation in upscaling to 4K by the Fios box, which may not be as good at it as your TV. I'd try using the built in ESPN and Fox Sports app in your TV and see if they look any better.

Hi. I think that you found the problem. The pictures from both of the TV's ESPN and Fox Sports apps look great. The color and contrast are good and best of all there is no motion blur. I confirmed this on my Samsung and LG OLED tvs.
So, if I understand your last response, this could mean that Verizon is getting 720P sports broadcasts from both ESPN and Fox. I hope that there is a solution to this since I don't have a subscription to Fox Sports and my free subscription to ESPN+ is due to run out.
Do you have any suggestions on how to pursue this with Verizon. The Verizon tech support that I recently talked to was of no help.
Thanks

720P is what they are sending to Fios. They have been doing it for years. Unfortunately on the ATV boxes, you can't choose the output resolution. That would let you have your TV upscale instead of the Fios box. If you are subscribed to Fox and ESPN in your Fios plan you should have access to them in the apps using your Fios credentials.

My motion burring problem was resolved, notice that I did not say fixed. After a couple of visits by a Verizon technician who confirmed but could not fix the problem, Verizon agreed to install the previous version of the set top boxes since they did not suggest any other alternative. These boxes appear not to be Android based. Replacing a 4100ATV system with a 4100 system is not trivial task and certainly cannot be done by the customer. Even after the technician "completed" the installation, I had to contact technical support to keep the set top boxes working. But this seems to have corrected the motion blurriness problem that I was experiencing with live fast action sports on a lot of stations. It also corrected an another annoying issue. It took 5-9 seconds to get a picture when switching channels with the 4100ATV. So to "flip" through 5 channels to see what was on it took over a minute. With the 4100 the picture appears instantaneously as in the "old days". Thanks for all of the help along the way.

The major difference between the two series of Fios boxes is the ATV boxes use an Android Streaming platform where the older 4100 series boxes use traditional digital cable. Since the 4100 series has been around a LOT longer, techs have been able to work on its shortcomings far better than the newer ATV boxes. You got caught in the middle. Glad to hear you got some satisfaction out of this, but be forewarned, the 4100 series WILL eventually be phased out.
